Play to the whistle im afraid. The ref only has to stop the game if he deems its a serious injury.

Goalkeeper injuries are always a stoppage (if the goalkeeper is involved in play). So are blood injuries and head injuries (regardless).

I'm afraid you're wrong...

Goalkeeper injuries are treated the same as 'other' injuries: ref decides on stoppage with the one criterium handed to him by the rules: "is it a serious injury or not?"

Always a stoppage due to common sense. Every referee will blow in that situation if the goalkeeper is down injured.

FWIW, that's from 2006 and is therefore out of date.

From the 2009/2010 ruling:

  • play is allowed to continue until the ball is out of play if a player is, in the opinion of the referee, only slightly injured
  • play is stopped if, in the opinion of the referee, a player is seriously injured
  • (procedure for doctors/physios and stretcher bearers)

Exceptions to this ruling are to be made only when:

  • A goalkeeper is injured
  • A goalkeeper and an outfield player have collided and need immediate attention
  • a severe injury has occurred, e.g. swallowed tongue, concussion, broken leg

So I am right.

Interesting.

could you post me the link to those latest rules, I think FIFA still has the outdated version on their website...And so does the Belgian + Dutch FA.

thanks

edit:

I just checked the official rules on the FIFA website:

http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/affederation/federation/lotg_en_55753.pdf

they are dated 2008-2009: can you tell me on which page the exceptions are described.

cheers!
