Am I able to update the same without using steam if I installed the game via steam?

I installed the game via steam and It is unable to run without the update. Am I able to update the game without using steam? Steam is updating it at less than 1kb per second, how annoying.

No. You have to do it with steam.

Don't do it, it wont work and you'll screw your game

So what do I do? :S I can't run it without steam and can't update it with steam... It's taking an age.

How long is an age?

Do you have a disk? If so you could always uninstall the game then reinstall then download the patch manually. Out of interest how fast is your internet connection?

Since this morning when I bought it, it's done 25% and for the last 2 hours it's been going on average at around 2kb, often less than 1kb. Everything else is working fine so was hoping there would be another way to do it other than Steam.

Hang on, what install option did you select when first installing - this is the key bit

Steam, then I activated it on Steam, and it auto updated. When I try to run the game it doesn't run so I'm assuming it needs the update. Steam is going too slow though.

What version are you on, 10.1 e.g. with patch?

If Steam is going slow then it sounds like a problem with your IP. Have you got anything else running e.g. bit tirrent allowing people to take data?

I'd closed down the pC and restart. Steam will pick up where you left off it it needs something else. Also perhaps Steam is downloading elements for other games e.g. counter strike etc

One other tip. Swithc off your router and restart it. Sometimes this can "wake" up your internet line
