Chelsea transfer embargo not fully working?

Recommended Posts

I think if they agree a deal with, say, a Brazilian club for an under 18 chap, the deal won't be final until he turns 18. Same with Argentina. They can agree a deal in advance.

But you are right - IRL, this registration would be suspended until 2011, so although they can sign him, he shouldn't be able to play for them.

Hmm he's an 18 year old uraguay player and is on a full time contract so i assume its acting like a proper transfer - will look to see if he gets any apperances.

In fact he turned 18 on the day of the transfer.

Ahh no idea when the deal went though - but surely if he didnt sign in the summer window they'd be under the embargo?

I think that IRL the ban would affect a deal like this, as the ban is on registering new players, rather than transfering them to the club. Chelsea could, in theory, buy all the players they wanted just to take them off the market, and play them in friendlies, but they wouldn't be allowed to register them to play in any competitions.

That's my understanding of it, anyway.
