Do I have to do anything involving the patches when I install my game or does it do it automatically?

if you install your game from steam it will auto patch

if you install from cd only it will not, you will havbe to downlaod them all from this site

If you buy the boxed version and install using Steam, the patching will be done for you. Any other way and you have to do it yourself.

If you buy from steam you dont need to do anything as they will update automatically, If you buy it from the shops you will need to keep a eye on the forums or I think there is also a "Check for new patch" button on the main menu of the game.

When you put the cd in, it will give you an option to link it to your Steam account. After thats done, you wont need to use the cd to play, or have to worry about patches :)

what ya mean by that mate?
you can buy directly from the steam website without purchasing a hard copy

WHS, although if you pre-order a hard copy from say http://www.zavvi.com/games/platforms/pc/football-manager-2010/10053714.html it is cheaper than Steam :). Plus you get the physical hard copy and manual which you can sniff while you wait :D
