Injuries

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet but I'm aware that there is already an option to use a specialist for injuries but I think they should improve this area. For example I Karim Benzema in my squad and he is continually picking up an ankle injury every other game and then spending up to two weeks out I would like to have the option to send him to a top doctor to operate and cure the option once and for all. As Manchester United have done with Owen Hargreaves to hopefully cure his tendenitis both his knees.

By implementing this idea I think it would expand the game further with realism as this is something clubs do a lot when they have players with the same recurring injuries.

What do you guys think of the idea ?

I think this is a good idea. At the moment I would never choose not to send my player to see a specialist as this is always the way that gets them back into action the soonest.

I'd like this to be expanded so that not only will it cost money to send them to a specialist, but it will actually mean they take longer to come back to training, but will have a higher chance of being less injury prone.

I think you are right with the need for expansion re: costing money to send them to a specialist. At the minute as you said you always send them to a specialist because they are back sooner, I do this too.

I think if the financial implications came in to it though I might think twice, especially if it was a reserve player who I wasn't too bothered about. Harsh on the reserve player but more realistic I think.

Also if you was a team in the championship/league one it would give you a bit of a headache if the treatment cost a fortune to your star striker...

That's what I was thinking. The less money you have the more you'll have to think about whether or not to send them to a specialist.

Plus, if you're a smaller club with a smaller squad, you would have to weigh up other things too. If you know that sending him to a specialist will mean he's out of action longer but may see him less injury prone, if you have few strikers will you be able to afford to have him out longer? Is he worth the risk that he could end up less injury prone, or are you better off just having him treated by the physios and getting him back in action asap?

Also, I wouldn't want ti to work every time. It should be linked with the hidden attribute injury proneness, and when successful should reduce this attribute so that the player is less injury prone. But sometimes it should not work brilliantly, perhaps only a drop of 1 or 2 points, or none at all.

I think this would be an excellent addition to the game tbh.

Yes I mentioned something similar to this when in a Ledley King debate. The hidden injury attribute has a massive effect on players if you do not train them properly.

Perhaps once you have sent them to a real specialist who is world renowned they could give you feedback on how it went and advice on his future and how you should train him. Then you would get an idea of how often you could play him, if it has been a success etc. This would help, especially as the injury prone attribute is hidden.

I think in the modern game, with the obvious massive strain on the players, they are getting newer and more serious long term injuries, so this would be welcomed by me too as it plays a big part in the game. I'm sure Newcastle and Michael Owen are all you need to say, maybe we should make players take physicals when signing too and get a report?

Again I agre with you (has the world gone mad :D)

Medicals are very much part of the real game but are at present not a part of FM. It would be a useful feature for a player to be properly assessed by your physios before you sign them.

Hang on 16....no 17 pigs just flew over my house! ;)

I hope this is implemented as your physio is pretty much forgotten about even though I try to sign the best one available to me. Until now I'm not even sure what sort of difference a world class physio compared to a national physio makes, but if he were to provide feedback on a players medical then he would earn his extortionate wage with his ability to spot potential problems!

This is a brilliant idea from the OP.

Couldn't agree more good thread drift to the bottom of the page.

I think this is something that needs to be developed in future FMs.

Hi guys, just thought I'd add my support for these ideas. I've been around these forums for a while mainly just viewing posts but this is one of the best ideas I'd seen for a while so thought I'd add a little to the thread.

The sending to specialist option in the game definitely needs to be developed. It's just too much of an easy choice at the minute whereas in real life it can be quite a big decision. As a Manchester United fan I think Owen Hargreaves is a great example of sending a player for specialist treatment which will keep a player out for quite a long period of time but will hopefully stop him coming in and out of the team through injuries as had previously been the case.

It would be nice if when the specialist option becomes available we as managers get a message in the inbox with something along the lines of this:

"Player x has suffered another knee injury which will keep him out of action for at least two weeks. However it is likely that the problem may return at a later date if only regular physio treatment is used. Specialist treatment will keep the player out for at least 6 months but should hopefully mean the player is less injury prone in the future. (Options: Send to specialist, leave to physio)"

As for medicals, I think there should be a report on every potential transfer before we confirm, with it's accuracy dependent on the quality of physios at the club and their reading of the hidden injury prone stat as well as the seen natural fitness and stamina. It might also highlight the list of previous injuries the player has had, which depending on the player's age might make you think twice about confirming the signing.

"Player x has undergone a medical ahead of his potential transfer to Your Club. The physios have reported that the player has excellent natural fitness and good stamina, but may be slightly injury prone. Player x had a knee injury in 2007 which kept him out of action for 4 months. (Confirm/delay/cancel transfer)"

I would love to see some of this implemented in future editions.

Great idea, but if you want SI to take notice, doesn't this need to be put in the feature suggestion thread?

I think I recall Miles mentioning this when talkin of how they decide on new features.

Not necessarily, no. They do also read other posts on the forum, and you can tell if they're taking note of a particular one, as it will have a little "tag" icon that appears in the title bar.

i would suggest, if its possible now (probably not) but a slight re-wording of the title. It could be the thread is bein bypassed by a lot of people as they assume its going to be another injury-related rant...

Seem to remember that an older version of cm had something like this in it where you requested a physio report and it was suggested to send player x to ........ for rehabilitaion if they had potential long term injuries

That's right, older versions of the game used to have this in. You had to do a physio report first and the physio might then report back "Benzema has a long standing ankle injury which could be cleared up by rehabilitation". You could then send him to rehab but the downside being he'd be out anywhere up to 6 months.
