"Application Failed to Initialize Properly"

Ok so I bought this game recently for my laptop running Vista 32-bit, but no matter how hard I try, I can't seem to get it to work. When I try to launch the game, an error message appears saying "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000005). Click OK to terminate the application." Now, before you refer me to the solution to this problem in the FAQ, I've already seen it and tried it without any luck. I've tried uninstalling and reisntalling the Microsoft .NET Framework, I've tried updating all my drivers, I've tried running as administrator and with compatibility mode, I've tried reinstalling (many times) and so on, but I simply CANNOT get it to work. Does anyone have any suggestions to help me out? I've already tried an in-depth search in these forums and in others and have yet to find a solution that has worked for me, so any help here would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Make sure you have the latest versions of both Java and directx. You might even need the SDK package.
