gloves89
Hi, I was wondering if anyone new whether sending a player out on loan straight away after being signed affected his development for the better or worse? I have recently signed 2 or 3 18-20year olds who arent quite good enough for my first team (Crystal Palace) Obviously they will benefit from playing 1st team football elsewhere if they arent playing, however im wondering if it would it be more beneficial to keep them in the reserves for a year and then send them out? Does anyone have a set plan that they follow when they sign these types of players? Any advice would be gratefully recieved.
Brian Shanahan
It does not affect their progress, aside from the obvious problem of getting the level of the loan club wrong. However it is hard often to get them out straight away, except for feeder clubs, so it might be January before they are loaned out. Stick them in the youths/reserves with mentorships until they are loaned out. These games are better than no games.
phnompenhandy
It DOES affect their progress. The fastest way for players to develop is to get first-team action. Get a balance between good tutoring and guaranteed first-team action out on loan, ideally to a club one division lower.
