I've never had this myself but its happened to a few AI managers and they have commented so I would say yes you will get a chance.

You will get the chance to set the record straight, in one of the next press conferences you'll be asked about this player. But even if you say "no chance", the fans will sometimes keep believing you'll be trying to sign this player, even if he's not shortlisted and you delete his scout report.

I've had this for 3 seasons running, my fans kept being uneasy about me wanting to sign a rival club's star player, even though I denied it every time I could. Guess some fans are programmed to be totally paranoid
