Is it just me?

Recommended Posts

Is it just me who doesn't buy players just because I don't like their name or don't think it looks neat!?

No matter how good the players are, I just refuse to buy them if there 'doesn't look right'.

An example is that young attacking midfielder Skjelbred (sp?), I see him in other people's teams on the forums but never buy him because of his name, surely a 'j' can't follow a 'k' =D

Haha, I've never heard of this.

It sounds kinda silly, you could have the worlds best player at a cheap price such as 6 million or something (you never know ;)) but his name is Xylem Kloderick.

And you wouldn't buy him?

Now that names ok, it sort of 'rolls off the tongue' :D

I'm often really shocked when i see the player in real life. I kinda allready have an image of what they should look like on the game and then see them and it ruins it for me cause it's so different!

Also i'll think i know what the pronounciation of someone on FM's name and then IRL some club buys them and they tell you on sky sports news and your like "what the hell, sound nothing like what i thought!" - classic example, Jesus - i thought pronounced Gee-sus, actually pronounced hey-zues or something. Totally threw me!

This! I always imagined Daniel Sturridge to be white with short black hair, for example. And I always pictured Bojinov as having long hair in a ponytail. :p

Also, Skjelbred makes me think of a Danish Bakery, and I have no idea why.

Also, Belgian players can have "nckx" at the end of their name. It's really hard to excitedly shout Chris Bruyninckx's name when he scores in the last minute. :p

I'm not bothered about names, but I will never sign anyone who has played for Rangers or Man City. I also like to avoid players who have played for Liverpool, Arsenal or Chelsea. Since I'm playing as United the City/Liverpool/Arsenal/Chelsea thing makes sense, the Rangers thing is just because I can't stand them.

Actually, mate, I suffer the same affliction - you're not alone. Not only do I name discriminate for players, I do it for clubs as well. Won't manage a club with a dodgy name (EX: Vigor Lamezia in Italy's C2 - came in for me, but the name seems to similar to Viagra - football and male impotence is not a desirable association). Makes finding a club tough when you're unemployed and picky too...
