2 player - 2 laptops need help

Me and a mate are trying to play football manager with 2 laptops we have an ethernet cable connecting the laptops but we cant find my sserver on his comouter how do we play it? many thanks

Might be the type of cable you are using, or an incomplete configuration of the network.

As a test, share C: on one laptop, and then try and map to it from another - this will show that windows is fully happy (as much as it matters for this) with the "faux network" you have created. If you know your IP, assign addresses individually, then use DOS.

OR if you don't mind spending a few quid, buy a router - even a wireless setup for this will cost you a few beers on ebay or similar(make sure you get the cable included, or you can end up paying nearly the same again for that - if you aren't connecting wirelessly, obviously).

cheers i have now connected the laptops up my computer name etc is coming up but light grey and we cant connect do we have to have the same versions of the game were both on football manager 09 but i have 9.3 he's on 9.0?

Yeah, you both have to have the same version of it to work.
