The Small Nations Challenge

Recommended Posts

Because there were some positive reactions, here it is, The Small Nations Challenge: what does it mean. You will get as many time as you want to play with a small nation, to play in Big tournaments. You can play with every FIFA-nation which is playable (you can choose nations as Guadeloupe or French Guyana in FM, but they are not reccomended by the FIFA, so you never can reach the World Cup With them).

Some other rules:

Time is not a factor. If you want play until 2444, your game may slow down a bit, but whatever.

You can show your results as if you like. I reccomend one qualification, one tounament or one year at a time.

If you want you can play with a club too, so a combination San Marino, San Marino Calcio is possible, as is Tromsø with Afghanistan. It can make this challenge easier...

Don't Cheat!

Now the explenation of that stupid long thing under this with examples it's actually really easy. You can calculate the number of points you get with this one:

(Best Worldcup Points+Best Continental Points+Best Confederations Cup Points)x Factor

some examples:

I played with Equatorial Guinea and never reached any Cup before I got Sacked):

(0+0+0)x200=0 points

I play with Greece and then I reached the Semi Finals of Euro 2012, I already reached the second round of the world Cup, these are the points I get:

(3+3+0)x1,5=7,5 that's not the jackpot

I played with Niger and I finally got to the Africa Cup 2046 you get the jackpot now!!:

(0+1+0)x300=300

I'm an absolute FM-master and I tried to do it with Guam I won the Asia Cup of 2020 and reached was 3rd in the Confederations Cup of 2021. I reached the Asia Cup already in 2016 and I was defeated in a group with Paraguay, Gabon and Bolivia in the world Cup of 2018, you get this amount of points:

(2+2+2)x5000=30000 points!

you can see it cost a lot of time to play with small nations, but at the end in this challenge you will get paid out(unless you got sacked like me with Equatorial Guinea:D)

Himan@Iceland... Factor=30!

2008:

Friendly

Iceland-Azerbeizjan 4-0, goals from: Eidur Gudjohnsen, Kári Árnason, Birkir Bjarnason, Veigar Páll Gunnarson

Group 9 EC Qualification

Norway-Iceland 2-1, goal from Gunnar Hreiðar þorvaldsson

Iceland-Scotland 1-2, Eidur Gudjohnsen

Holland-Iceland 3-1, Emil Hallfreðsson

Iceland-Macedonia 3-3, 3x Eidur Gudjohnsen

If you look to how we played, we did it very well with a 4-0 win over Azerbeizjan and a lucky draw of Macedonia over us. In every match we scored a goal and I'm hppy about that too.

Standings in Group 9 at 1st January 2009:

Holland 3-9 8-2

Scotland 3-9 6-3

Norway 3-3 2-3

Iceland 4-1 6-10

Macedonia 3-1 6-10

A big stunt in the first qualification round -19:

Our -19 manager Guðni Kjartansson lead Iceland to a big stunt in this round, to going through. The biggest Icelandic talents gave theirselves a win over Bulgaria -19

Here the results of the qualification, all played in Sofia:

Kazakhstan-19 - Iceland -19 0-0

Iceland-19 - Bulgaria -19 3-0, Björn Sverrisson(FH), Bessi Viðisson(Keflavík), Kristinn Steindórsson(Breiðablik)

Greece -19 - Iceland -19 3-1, AZ's Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson

Group standings:

Bulgaria 3-6 3-3

Greece 3-6 5-2

Iceland 3-4 4-3

Kazakhstan 3-1 0-4

Iceland wQualified as best number three

Himan @ Iceland

Year: 2009

The national team:

Iceland-UAE 3-0, Gudjohnsen, Gunnarson(Nancy), Árnason(Esbjerg FB) Friendly

WCQ:

Scotland-Iceland 1-2 þorvaldsson, Árnason(both Esbjerg fB)

Iceland-Holland 0-3

Macedonia-Iceland 3-4 Gunnarson, Gudjohnsen 3x

Iceland-Norway 1-1, Olafur Örn Bjarnason(Brann)

Late friendlies:

Iceland-China 0-0

Iceland-Gabon 2-0, Gudjohnsen, Villhjálmsson(FH)

We dit a great job with Iceland. We won against Scotland and UAE, what gave us 33 places on the FIFA list(113-> 80) and then we lost against Holland, what did nothing only lowered our chance on the World Cup. We had to win against Macedonia and Norway to may take the second place, but we failed and ended 4th with 8 points out of 8 games. In the late friendlies we drew against China and won easy against Gabon. At the end we took the 60th place of the world, that's between Wales and Trinidad and Tobago and two places higher then Northern Ireland!

Standing group 9:

Holland 24 24-4

Scotland 12 14-16

Norway 10 9-12

Iceland 8 13-18

Macedonia 4 13-23

Holland Qualified, Scotland wasn't one of the best numbers 2

Iceland -21:

This team did a great job in Group 4 of the EC Qualification, here the results of the first 4 games: (I don't play with them I only want to show the Icelandic talent!)

Georgia-Iceland 1-3 Gíslason(Viborg FF), Smárason(SC Heerenveen), Viðarsson(FC Twente)

Iceland-Moldova 4-0 Ormarsson(Fram KF), Sigurdsson(Birmingham), Grímsson(Fram KF), Viðarsson

Spain-Iceland 3-0

Iceland-Greece 3-1 Valgarðsson(FH), Gunnarsson(Coventry), Jóhannesson(Fylkir)

Group 4 after 4 games:

Spain 12 12-0

Iceland 9 10-5

Greece 6 8-6

Georgia 3 2-9

Moldova 0 0-12

I couldn't do it better I think...

Iceland -19:

You remember the last time they reached de 2nd Qualification round. Here it is:

Iceland-Germany 1-4, Illugason(Reading)

Belgium-Iceland 2-1, Sigþórsson(AZ Alkmaar)

Poland-Iceland 0-0

Iceland ended third before Poland on scored goals.

And then again a first qualifying round, can Iceland-19 stunt again? They play in Reykjavík:

Portugal-Iceland 1-1 Guðlaugsson( ÍBV)

Armenia-Iceland 1-1 Sverrison(FH)

Iceland-Belgium 3-0 Stefánsson 2x(KA), Illugason(Reading)

They did it again. When I saw they still had to play against Belgium and had only 2 points they could have a problem, but Iceland has more talent than I thought en they won it. Iceland ended first before Portugal and Belgium. So there is a European Championship -19 in it? then Iceland must take the first place in a group with Bulgaria, France and the Czech Republic.

a good win over Kazakhstan, it will lastig time now. I get a new job at Ireland from Iceland to Ireland, so only on changing letter, but a it gave me my first point by reaching Euro 2008!

Thanks i was delighted with the win over Kazakhstan, something to build on. However there is an underlying problem in Andorra. There are only 65 players eligible for Andorra, 31 off which are 30+ years old, so i'm hoping quite a few youth players come through otherwise i could have major problems in the future.

I had the same thing in Equatorial Guinea. The first two three years you get nothing but then they will come trust me ;)

Anguilla-Netherlands Antilles 2-1 Mackay

WCQ 2nd round

Netherlands Antilles-Antigua&Barbuda 6-2 Sidney Bito(2), Mackay, Nelisse, Kantelberg, Deul

Draw Gold Cup 2011(yes we qualified)

Costa Rica

Honduras

Netherlands Antilles

When we reach the semi's we can get our first 300 points :D But this group is the difficultest possible without USA and Mexico, cause these three are the other countries who reached the WC of 2006 or 2010!

2011, Friendlies pre-Gold Cup

Netherlands Antilles-Lithuania 0-1

Netherlands Antilles-Honduras 2-2 Deul, Martina

Gold Cup, Group Stage:

Honduras-Netherlands Antilles 2-0

Netherlands Antilles-Costa Rica 3-0 Jansen, Deul, Sidney Bito

Trinidad&Tobago-Netherlands Antilles 3-3 Nelisse, Jansen, Benschop

Group Standings:

1st Honduras 9 11-1

2nd Netherlands Antilles 4 6-5

3rd Costa Rica 3 2-8

4th Trinidad&Tobago 1 5-10

Honduras and we were going through, cause we are at the first two. Costa Rica was the 2nd team of the best three teams, so they were just lucky!

Quarterfinals:

Mexico-Netherlands Antilles 4-2 Benschop, Rojer

Honduras-El Salvador 3-0

Costa Rica-USA 1-2

Canada-Cuba 4-0

This was as expected the end of the tournament. Mexico was just to good for us, but they were better than every team this tournament.

Semi's

Honduras-Mexico 0-5

USA-Canada 3-0

3rd/4th place:

Honduras-Canada 2-4

Final:

Mexico-USA 4-2

Friendlies after the Gold Cup.

Netherlands Antilles-Bolivia 1-0 Martina

Netherlands Antilles-New Zealand 5-2 Deul(2), Benschop, Sidney Bito, Martis

So we beated now a country from every continent after the match against Andorra, but I think we aren't already good enough to reach the WC
