Someone suggested that if the AI clubs are going for the same player as you, it's because the club thinks they need that position filled. Generally they'll shortlist a number of players for that position, not just the 1 player you're after too. So the advice was to look around at the other 'Wanted' players and make phantom bids hoping to lure the AI clubs into bidding for the alternative player, thus leaving you to conclude your transfer in peace for the other player.
