your most enjoyable career

Recommended Posts

mine was on fm05 I went 2024 which is longest game i ever did but truth is I only lasted that long because the new game option broke! I managed lots of teams in the process cant remember who I started with but joined England after the 06 world cup won euros then got sacked after a poor world cup and then specialised in yo-yo clubs from premiership to championship, as i wasnt too loyal in this career and jumped ship a lot of times I remember managing Sunderland,Forest,Wigan,Wolves,Norwich and Leicester in this period, Forest and Norwich were fairly poor, I did okay at Sunderland and well at the rest especially Leicester where i finished off having got them promoted and qualified for Europe after signing a bunch of brilliant brazilian regens to work around my star veteran Eric Djemba Djemba :D

Great achievement dafuge but can i ask why on screen 9, on your career summary, it says Braintree and Braintree Town? Did you manage 2 teams?

No idea, I've always wondered that, I was with the same club all the way through without leaving. I think it was just a little bug as it seemed to split my club career up when I took on international jobs.

That's a bit of a bummer! I just wondered...it still takes no credit away from a great achievement!

That was the only screen where it happened, everywhere else it displayed it as one continuous stint at the club. Pretty weird since there was only one club in Braintree.

Good Work Dafuge

My best game (this is how sad I am) are my demo games lasting up to 2 months with Norwich and Tottenham.

FM doesn't work proparly for me. I have made a thread in Technical Issues if anyone can help me out

damn... that is awesome... currently i'm playing with braintree too in season 4 and still in blue square premier :( any tips for playing braintree??

That was with FM06 though, which was really easy. I haven't been able to do anything even remotely close to that with any version since.

Mine would have been about 10 years ago now when I was just a youngster. I went 13 seasons with Man Utd, I remember the highlight at the time was managing to get the original Ronaldo on a free transfer, I think he was 31 but he still banged the goals in!

Tough question, either my Gateshead save in 09 or Stafford in 08.

Gateshead 09 - Promotion from BSN to premier league. Just about to start my first season up there but im going to struggle as i struggle to compete in the transfer market, both financially and on a reputaion basis i guess. My biggest annoyance is after years of struggling financially in the lower leagues i managed to accrue a decent balance which, with the new found premier league TV money, has been lavishly spent on upgrading training and youth facilities and a 2000 seat stadium increase leaving me with little money for much else.

My current save with Wolves.

2038 at the moment. 14 Premier Leagues and 11 CLs amongst other things. Still going strong. Have the 70000 seater Hersh Stadium, but the name has disappeared (anyone know a fix - editors can't do it), but can't get any bigger. I'm also managing Cyprus and just narrowly missed out on qualifying for the World Cup.

I'm stuck in two minds between my Ipswich save on FM08 and my Villa save on FM09.

FM08:- I turned Ipswich into a major force in Europe and won 2 ECC's with them after 9 seaons, that was an online game with my mate actually. I didn't have any superstars in my team but had a solid core of very good players who had the right personality to get the job done. Some stand out players were Martin Fenin, Owen Garvan (club captain) and Jan Polak.

FM09:- I still have this save sitting there ready for me to go back to it if I ever get bored with my current save. Honours so far - EPL Champions twice, FA Cup winners once, League Cup winners once and UEFA Cup winners twice. The Champions League trophy is the only one to elude me so far. I'm in 2018 just off to start my 12th season. I only have two of the original players left from the current squad - Ashley Young and Curtis Davies (club captain). Stand out players so far are Olexandr Gladkyi, Demba Ba, Adem Ljajic and Simon Vukcevic. I'm looking forward to going back to this and hopefully getting that Champions League success that has escaped me so far. :)

I am doing a European Super League at the moment and it is quite hard. It is probably the most enjoyable as I am playing against the best teams week in week out in the world.

FM06, Braintree Town, 2060, 23 CL titles in a row, Danny Roberts and his 1000th goal, 130000 people in Cressing Road, breaking the £2b mark, I could go on...

You know, your recollection of that game has stuck with me. Whenever my friends or family boast of their achievements at FM, by default I refer them to your work at Braintree.

Dafuge = Legend.

Especially sweet that Danny Roberts ended up as manager hey? :)

Ternana, Monza, Verona, Italy, Reggiana, Swansea, Atletico "B" :(

I've posted the story before somewhere. Started in the Italian third division but was stuck in the lower levels before I managed to finally get to Serie A with Verona and even won it after about 5-6 attempts. Was then offered the Italian job the day after I clinched my one and only title. About a year into my job I was sacked after a bad World Cup but went back to club management straight away with mid-table Reggiana. Was sacked 6 months into that so after a year out and went to Swansea who were battling relegation from the PL. Was sacked after a few months again and once more was out of work for a long spell. My last club before my PC crashed while in the middle of saving the game was the Atletico Madrid "B" team.

It was an utter failure but it was fun.

lyn save-4th season in, and they start with a garbage transfer budget of 200k and no player worth over 400k. My goal was to win the European cup with them. Its fun because i have a team of quality youngsters at the start who have all been gelling together for 4 seasons, and i only get a few transfers every year-usually backups-though Skjelbred keeps refusing to leave Westham despite the fact i have had european football 3 years and am Norwegian league and cup champions 3 years in a row including a 68 game league winning streak.

Last season we got killed in the european cup-this season despite my players being worse attribute wise I have beaten Lyon and Inter Milan in the knockouts and am now up against a very beatable Roma team to get to the finals-someone on here told me this is all down to my teams chemistry, and its true my guys really do seem to be playing good team football and all overachieving above what their stats suggest.

Just i never played a save where i focused on squad chemistry like this and kept a group of players around this long, but its really paying off, last game at home I played direct attacking football vs Inter Milan and dominated their world class midfield with 70-30 possession in my favor and won 2-1 even though it was just Ander and Sandro for me vs 3 world class midfielders.

I thought the game was broke or something but it turns out thats team chemistry for you-ah i love lyn

It was a fantastic story and nothing I've done since has come close to it. Danny scoring in the CL final in his final game for the club before retiring was one of the highlights for me, for him to eventually replace me as manager was just fairytale stuff.

Dafuge, what happened in the end? Did you quit? Surely you couldnt have been sacked, unless you issued an ultimatum to your board :D. Did you take your talents else where or let the save die and the legend live on?

I played that game right up to the release of FM07, so when the time was right I retired my 80 year old manager and watched for a bit to see who they appointed as my successor. Danny Roberts had been my assistant for some time and was appointed as caretaker manager before they made the job permanent.

Possibly the most satisfying end to a game ever.

You should write a full story on the career, taking info from the challenge thread. It would be a great read. Shame you've no longer got screenies :(

The threads that I wrote about it in were deleted in the forum purge when we changed software, those few screenshots and my memories are all I have left of it :(

I always take pride from the small things that i accomplish. On FM06 i won the CL with Ajax with a first 11 comprised of 10 Dutchmen and 7 of which had graduated from the youth team. My best accomplishment in terms of personal satisfaction yet

I'm really enjoying my current game. Started off unemployed with all North/South American leagues running and started off unemployed before going to the Rio de Janeiro state with third division Boavista. After two years struggling to compete with the top level state clubs - Fla, Flu, Vasco and Botafogo and resigned and was offered a job at midtable Chilean Primera Division club, Nublense. I've let them to their highest league placing in the games history in the last two years. Now hoping to return to Brazil to manage one of the big clubs.

Probably my Ajax game on FM05. Always won the domestic league and cups (had no real competition), the real challenge being the Champions League. Finally reached the final one year, beating Bayern Munich after a reload (lol). By that time Real Madrid already signed one of my stars, van der Vaart, a few seasons before. After I won the CL though, shipped Sneijder to Real for an astronomical amount aswell.

Kind of lost interest in the game after that, even though I had huge amounts of money I couldn't sign anyone worthwile (had no FMScout back then to sign good youngsters also).
