Future Contracts?

So I tried to nick a player soon after he entered the academy of a small team, however he chose to sign a measly professional contract with that team (he'll sign it 3 months later)

My question is, when I played FM 07 I understood that you can't buy players when they have future contracts (the game would default even if the other team accepts your bid and allows you to contract the player). Does the same applies for FM09?

Edit: nevermind, found out that it works but the player asked for a first team spot and 24k p/w....

Does it work? When I try it, the players keep rejecting the contract no matter what you're offering is (above) what they want. The day they sign the pro contract, they'll accept a next to nothing contract.

Reported it in bugs, and someone had the same problem as I did.
