Best to use playmaker or target men or both?

Can we have a discussion on this. Is it best to use playmaker or target men or both?

What are the disadvantage of each?

I don't use either, I find that if one of these is set players pass to them too much. I prefer everyone in my team to be equal, they have their instructions and they are set to them. I never set free role either.

I never use a playmaker, as like arsenal said the rest of team pass to them to much, I like to use a target man if possible, especially if playing next to a fast striker, or up front alone.

The difference of the two are playmakers make things happen on the pitch ie a midfielder who puts in through ball, sets things up, makes things tick etc? Ie Gerrard?

A target man is someone who you put balls to in hope he will score? Ie a Peter Crouch?

I use a playmaker but not a targetman. I find it good having one person that makes things happen and gets the res tof the squad going.

I don't use either. I don't want one person to be doing all of the work. I like it all divided up. And I don't see a need for one.

Thats interesting, I actually use both targetman and playmaker.

But I brought a new forward (Fast striker) and I noticed he wasn't getting much shots on target so I set him to targetman and he started to score more goals and get involved more.

Is it better to st targetman as a forward or a fast striker?

That depends how the ball is provided to him.

Big forward: Long balls through the air.

Fast striker: Into his feet.

I have it on mixed.

The interesting thing is my targetman was always the forward becuase I use him to play through ball to my striker. Both my forward and striker scored over 20 goals each.

Now I've had to change my two forwards. I have found that my striker doesn't get involved or score much goals. So I switched him to targetman, seems to work but now my forward doesn't score much. So bit of a pickle.

I've always found using a playmaker is akin to sticking a "kick me" sign on him (or, rather, "hard tackle him") which causes various problems for me - but I suppose that's just how I play.

I use both providing there are players capable of the roles in my line-up. However, if they are tightly marked and not performing well, I'll untick the box(es).

If you have the players capable of playing in these positions, there is no disadvantage in having both. Best to check the relevant attributes of the players you have in mind and decide then.
