Playing with more than one Manager?

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering if anyone else is doing this in their games, In my main game I have three managers at different leagues. I started with Reading and in 2019 I added two more managers, One at league Two side, Wycombe and another at BSS side Maidenhead. It has kept the game interesting having three teams at different levels but can still have a chance to meet in cup runs and such. So any of you doing the same thing?

Used to be a tradition of mine having others (spending most of the time on holiday) representing friends to make it interesting. However doing transfers and traditional friendly tournaments (starting from when I added an actual friend who was staying a few days and we had a match to test out our signings) took forever. Before my last season I did it for the first time since 07 with mixed results. There always seemed to be a pattern where most of the time there'd always be at least one doing badly at any given time so I'm wary given I'd been doing very well and had a rocky if inconclusive start and even kept a backup in case it ruined it. As it happened things were better then ever and I'm not sure whether that resulted in (or even was caused by) the poor showings of the others. someone mentioned this trend a year or 2 ago about the earlier games and I'm not sure whether it exists or not now. But playing properly twice is a bit much tried it early in 08 for club and internationals. Having the international manager made international breaks (and summer, especially as I was mexico who'd often have the gold cup, confererations cup or the copa america in non WC years) far too long so I gave that up.

I had a blast with an 8-manager "international" game in FM'08, I started out managing Holland, Croatia, South Korea, U.S.A., and similar nations trying to get them qualified for World Cup 2010. However, I let all of my managers apply for club jobs, too, so I wound up managing eight different clubs plus eight different nations!

Downsides:

- It took forever to complete a season

- I would occasionally forget to do something for X team, such as "send out my scouts", resulting in inefficiencies I wouldn't have tolerated while managing one team.

- It was tough to save on Match Days, as I had to complete all matches before I could save the game.

- Each "Continue" took forever because I had so many active competitions in "Full Detail".

Upsides:

- I got exposed to plenty of experiences I wouldn't have, otherwise

- Having some "successful" clubs let me manage a relegation-battling winless wonder and embrace it for the challenge (had I done that in a solo game, I might have resigned in frustration)

- It made the game world feel much deeper and more textured to see so many sides of it at once

- It gave me great side-by-side comparisons regarding media, team talks, etc.

I enjoy doing this because it breaks up the monotony of one game. It also, like Amaroq said, allows me to do things I would never do in a solo game (i.e. take on near hopeless challenges or become the digital equivalent of Jose Mourinho [i.e. a short term specialist/vagabond manager]).

I always do this

im always 3 teams, Newcastle, Inter, and Bristol City

each give a different challenge, i also accept international management requests too. I think the game becomes too easy with just 1 team, and there are too many good players out there to miss out on!

Hahah - good question!

I typically play pretty close to the LLM forum's rules, so it would first take two club's scouts spotting the same player to get him on two club's short lists at the same time .. then if it made sense for both to bid, I'd typically just let them make the "demand" bid and let the player choose.

For picking up a player off another club, I was pretty mild, kind of like a "friendly" online game, where you just have a gentleman's agreement not to unsettle a player on another squad. Though I would add the player to a shortlist, and was quite content to go in for him if he got unsettled, same as I would an AI player.

I did have a few "unconventional" loans, though, if I recall... :D

On FM08 I also managed Harrogate and Leeds - in my imagination Harrogate was a feeder to Leeds so was able to loan youth players and actually ensure they played and were treated right. Also meant an advantage for Harrogate to get them promoted quickly :-) Lost interest though. Can't remember why.
