Market value decreases

Almost all of my players have their market value decreasing. I tried to figure out why this happens but now I'm clueless.

- their contracts are not expiring

- the market value is not decreasing after having paid a high transfer fee

- the players play regularly in all competitions and perform well

- the players are happy

- they are not aged 30+

Did i miss anything?

League performance and club reputation come into account also I think. Having said that, reputation always remains static so I doubt that's your problem. I usually take no notice of market value, it doesn't matter all that much in my honest opinion.

Then after 1-1 1/2 seasons some went back up again

Maybe i should have said that the market values of SOME players (the young ones, that significantly get better) increase. But my DC who scores 10+ goals per season and always has a rating of at least 7 has gone from 9 mio to 1,5 mio. Annoying

Market value in the game is very misleading. The reason in game why the value decreases is because you bought someone over priced. Example: buying a key player (market value: 5m) from another club where the other club will ask for much much more money like 25m.

I would suggest to SI that the market value feature to be hidden from us. How do you define a player's market value in real life? The market value dont exsist. It is more like a club wants X amount of money for the player or how much the manager /chairman wants to pay for the player. What prevents some manager to not pay over the odds is based on his opinion if it is worth it and his other options available, not some defined market price. Where does it says Berbatov is worth that X amount of money? His old club wants that much and the buyer negotiated to that amount. No one in the real world has a book/list that states the market value of certain player.

Does club reputation remain static? because I use the default setting when searching for my assistant to filter out unrealistic players and after winning the CL and EPL with Liverpool, players like Kaka and Ronaldo would accept a contract if I could find the funds whereas before me winning would not?

Is that my club reputation or some other factor?

Maybe not market value, but every player will have a valuation as an intangible fixed asset of the club. For insurance, taxation and asset purposes, every professional club will have a book with players values set out. Whilst you will hear about clubs declaring a value for a player based on their importance to the club, they do start with that listed figure as a baseline. Whether they go up or down from that line is down to their financial situation etc. but there is a value given for each player.

And whilst the precise amount of these valuations are not public knowledge, clubs wishing to purchase a player will have an idea of what that player is valued at and bid accordingly. When Veron was sold to Chelsea, it was at a figure that was half of what Manchester United had paid. But it was above his value as an intangible fixed asset. His market value, derived from his potential contribution to the team, his current contribution to the team and his asset value, was met. At the time I recall some Manchester United officials claiming that they had made a profit on the sale, when looked at through the swirling semantics of finance.

The point is that every player does have a value, and the people making the bids are used to valuing players. So the figures they bid are based on a perceived market value. When bids get crazy it's because the team doesn't have to or want to sell their player. So it takes a bid well over the worth of the player to secure their registration.

So yes, market value exists. You might not be able to find it listed out like you can the comparative price of a can of beans, but it is known to those involved in this specialised market.

And to further the OP's list, another reason for the decreases in market value could be an increase in number of players able to play in that position and at that level. The more there are, the less the scarcity value of a player. I don't know if that mechanism is in the game, but it wouldn't be a surprise if it was.
