AndySCFC1
Hi, can somebody explain to me the rules of the draft in the MLS. If a player is under contract is he able to be drafted and what date in the game does the draft fall on. Cheers
rancer890
MLS Drafts Written by me. Some draftees in FM are from amateur clubs, so they only have amateur contracts. However, you cannot sign anyone that is draft eligible before the draft. The MLS Superdraft occurs around mid-January...
MarkyMark
The Superdraft and Supplemental drafts will automatically show up on your calendar and you'll get a memo beforehand telling you who the 125 players eligible for the drafts will be. You'll also get a memo telling you who the Generation Adidas (or "GA") players will be. These players are important and will likely all be drafted within the first two rounds. They are important because (A) they are typically among the best players in the draft and (B) they already have multi-year contracts that the team drafting them assumes (since they are considered development players their salaries aren't paid for by their team). Besides the GA players, it doesn't matter whether the players to be drafted have contracts or not.
nycjoker21
GA players are also usually better players and most importantly they dont count against the strict 18 man senior roster limit. Just be careful with international players (they have a I next to the name), you can only have 8 international players on a team. However you can trade for international slots with other MLS teams as part of player transfers
