Could this be a way of reducing the size of the save file...?

Ok we know that the longer your game goes on the larger the save file gets. We also know that the larger the file gets the slower the game is processed until, one day, it gets to big to be playable.

This affects long term games.

I've wondered if there is anyway to gradually remove some of the ocntent of the file. I don't know anything about the technical side of things so hopefully others will add ideas to this.

Say for instance, after you reach your tenth season, you have the option of removing stats and saved matches from your first season. If this was done on a rolling basis your save fil would remain roughly the same size as players and coaches retire.

Like I said, I don't know anything of the technical side so I may be missing some obvious stumbling blocks. I hope others can add something to this.

Any thoughts?

There's a little utility called FM Cache Cleaner - I think that does what you ask. The guys over in the Editors' Hideaway might know more about it.

Is this enabled by default during a game and does it do it effectively?

Not by default - you click on it as and when you want. But I'm not sure - ask the Editor boffins who make such utilities.
