Sell on clause

I am Inter and sold Luis Jiminez for 4.5M to Brescia and a 20% sell on clause, now Catania have bought him for 5.25M and now I am getting 160k for my 20% share. 20% of 5.25M is 1.05M? What gives?

It sounds like the sell on clause was a % of the profit that the selling club makes. Brescia made £750,000 on Jiminez, therefore you receive 20% of that and not 20% of the whole transfer fee.

Or you could just make sure that you're actually putting a sell-on clause in your player's contract.

There are two sell on clauses

1) % of any profit made

2) % of the overall transfer

Just make sure you read it before accepting so you know which one you are doing

The AI heavily tends to favour the profit clause in my games, which I personally dislike since I know they rarely sell on for a profit with most of my transfers lol

Yup, sounds like you selected % of profit instead of % of sale value. Easy mistake to make, but I bet you won't let it happen again!

....umm wow. I'm in 2016 and never really noticed this. Is this new to FM09? It became habit in FM08 for me and now in my clauses about half of the future percentage are on profit of sale. Dam, pays to read

Yes, its a new feature to FM09

Just remember to always check, as the AI will usually (90% of the time) pick the profit made clause
