The Challenge and the Experiment:

Can you take the aging squad of Deadwood United and repay the taxpayers’ unwilling investment? Or will you rather embrace the entrepreneurial spirit of Dudley and battle with Scion 84 FC to keep their heads above water? Deadwood United’s seems to be better suited for a short term success than “The Youngsters” however the road is long and preparations must be made. Scion 84 FC has to hit the floor running and maintain a good pace. However, with a squad full of inexperienced youth with lots of potential means that your success will most likely be long term. Read the full details of the two clubs as once you pick your side the rivalry will be fierce!

Scenario One:

The recent economic downturn has hit the English Premier League. The Premier is just “too big to fail” according to the British government. Downing Street plans a government bailout for the English Premier League. All the “toxic assets” of the league have been taken and put into one club. This means that any players that the clubs do not wish to hold onto anymore will be transferred with the same contracts. One of the conditions is that the new club must start in the Premier League. West Brom feels they cannot sustain themselves in the Premier League and refuse to be promoted. An opportunity opens for a new club to take its place and the English Premier League seizes it. Deadwood United is born.

Deadwood United

Details of the Club:

Founded in 2008 in the midst of the economic meltdown. The founding of this club is a clear and controversial reminder of the accounts taken by the British government in order to save the English Premier League. The fans have taken this and affectionately nicknamed the club “The Toxins” but to everyone else they still are a “Toxicant”. Morale is low at the club as these players have all been snubbed from their previous teams. The club has got a lot of media exposure so its reputation is on the rise despite its controversial founding. However, they have yet to prove themselves worthy of the massive government loan.

Stadium and Location:

Leeds is one of the largest cities without a top flight football club in a long time. The citizens welcome a chance to have some top flight football back into the city. As a cost saving measure Deadwood United is allowed to rent Elland Road aside Leeds United.

Finances:

Nothing comes free in life and certainly not a football club. The cost of the new club (signing bonuses and transfers) is covered by the British taxpayers with a heavy 150 million pound loan to be paid back in 30 years time. Any sponsorship is uncertain as the notion of this “toxic club” is highly controversial. Though a plus is that the players have all been transferred without any additional clauses attached to their contracts, otherwise they remain the same. Your starting balance is a modest 5 million pounds. Any additional money such as sponsors and season tickets are uncertain due to founding of the club. However, your transfer budget is nearly zero as you have already transferred all the players you need. The wage budget fairs no better as it is just enough to cover your current expenses.

Staff and Players:

This whole plan as designed by the British government so the Chairman naturally is the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Alistair Darling. His loyalty to the club is extremely low and the pressure from this club’s Chairman is extremely high. Nevertheless, all this pressure stem from one primary reason. The fact that the British people want to see this money paid back. Though highly controversial his determination is quite high along with his ambition. This does mean he has very little patience which will result in massive interference.

The Chairman has decided to appoint Alan Cursbishley. His past success at Charlton has shown he is good with money and can at least keep a club afloat. The Chairman has though allowed the new manager to appoint whomever he wishes as his supporting staff in the club. So a new crew must be quickly signed.

The players as stated before are the ones that other clubs simply do not wish to hold on for one reason or another. All transfer fees and signing bonuses have been paid therefore all players are available to play. The age of the squad means that after a season or two the club will begin to lose several of their players. Nevertheless with the level of experience of the players within the club means they should be able to stay afloat.

Relationships:

So far there are no favorite or disliked people. Though football is football and rival clubs have already emerged. Some Leeds Untied fans are resentful of the new top flight club steaming into town while others welcome them with open arms as they are not in the same league. Although the rivalry with Leeds is open to change. While the relationship with Scion 84 FC is nearly set in stone. This is one of the strongest rivalries within the English Premier League. Primarily set by the situation in which they were founded. Another thing to note is that simply how both clubs emerged. Politics does play as crucial role between both clubs. As Deadwood United was a result of government intervention while Scion 84 FC was completely due to the free market. Not quite the Old Firm rivalry but still a similar one. The age and experience factor does play another role in this rivalry being that Deadwood is made up of players that have experience int the game but have been snubbed by their old clubs.

Affiliation/Records/History:

Simply put, the club has none as it has just been founded.

Scenario Two:

The recent economic downturn has hit the English Premier League but this does not mean that there are no opportunities. Several promising youngsters in the English Premier League have been sick and tired of not being given first team opportunity so have decided to make one for themselves. They have formed through a grassroots movement their own football club especially now that the British government has provided a bailout to the EPL. Embracing the free market the club does not take any federal bailout money but instead opts to take the incentive provided by the town of Dudley. Stoke City knowing they are not in the finical status to keep up with the cost of the Premier League they decide to deny themselves promotion to the EPL. The English Premier League in an effort to keep themselves afloat welcomes this move and the positive atmosphere surrounding it to offset the negative tone of the Deadwood United plan. The Newest club in England takes place of one of the oldest and enters the Premier League.

Scion 84 FC

Details of the Club:

Founded in 2008 in the midst of the economic meltdown. The founding of this club is a clear example of the ability of individuals to come together and make their own fortunes despite their situation. Positive attitudes do surround the founding of Scion 84 FC. Although Media speculation already surrounds on how “The Youngsters” will fair in the Premier. These “Upstarts” do end up with a decent reputation however the media is correct and they have to prove themselves. Morale is extremely high at the club due to “The Youngsters” having nothing to lose and all the ambition in the world. Lots of potential and a clean sheet give the club a good starting point.

Stadium and Location:

Dudley is one of the largest towns in England without a league club. The citizens of Dudley have launched a grassroots movement to pressure the town council of Dudley to allow a club to set up shop. The Dudley council sees this an a stimulus to the economy in the town and draw up a plan with incentives for a new club to relocate or start up in Dudley. This leads to the “Upstarts” picking Dudley as their home town. The only available ground is Invensys Sports Ground which seats a mere 1000 spectators. On the positive side there is no rent to be paid and the council has allowed the stadium to expand up to 100,000 seats.

Finances:

The incentives provided by Dudley reward Scion 84 FC handsomely. The club starts with no debts but with a very modest balance of 5 million pounds accumulated due to the hard work of the fans and players to fundraise and private citizen contribution. Any additional money such as sponsors and season tickets are uncertain due to founding of the club. Although all players have been released by their former clubs or simply signed a new contract with Scion 84 FC as most of them are “Youngsters” anyway.

Staff and Players:

This whole plan as designed by the players which means the Board and Chairman have yet to be chosen. Loyalty to this club is extremely high while the pressure to succeed is extremely low as everyone is just happy to be here. The players quickly warm up to the prospect of Steve Cotterill as their new manager. He is relatively young for a manager though he has never managed a top flight team. After managing Burnley for nearly four years and being the longest serving manager in the league the players feel he understands their cause. Steve Cotterill is given free reign in which to sign staffing.

The players as stated before these players simply do not wish to player for their former clubs and decide to leave for green pasture at Dudley. However, one negative aspect is that the players are only free from contracts with their former parent clubs. All loans are still in affective as the club cannot afford to cancel all loan offers. This means that the club will have to improve the young squad and try to hold until the end of the season when all players return from loan.

Relationships:

So far there are no favorite or disliked people. Though football is football and rival clubs have already emerged. Some Arsenal fans are resentful of the new youngsters due to some bolting from the club in favor of Scion 84 FC. While other still love the players and welcome this new found chance. Although the rivalry with Arsenal is open to change as years come. The relationship Deadwood United is nearly set in stone. The age and experience factor does play another role in this rivalry being that Scion 84 FC are all young players who simply just left their old clubs to the open arms of Dudley.

Affiliation/Records/History:

Simply put, the club has none as it has just been founded.

Can't really help with the players, but just wanted to say excellent opening post

Where does the Scion name come from out of interest?

Well Scion means offspring so I figured since they are youngsters or all offspring of the academy of other clubs. And '84 is because only players that are under 24 or born in 1984 or younger.

Are you playing this game or is it meant to be a challenge of sorts?

Its an experiment I want to do. But I need help to make then new DB. So I just need a list of players and once its all setup I'll release the file for everyone else to enjoy.
