Japanese Names

Recommended Posts

Just a little something that's being bugging me. Why is it that, in FM, Chinese and Korean names are ordered correctly with the surname first (eg Park Ji-Sung), but Japanese ones aren't, instead being written in the western way with the surname last?

It's not so much a criticism, as it's pretty normal for us westerners to put East Asian names the wrong way round, so much so that I wouldn't even really say it's wrong, but it's just a funny inconsistency.

Japanese sportspeople are named in the Western way outside of Japan: given name then family name. However in Korea and China this isn't the case: they retain their Eastern way of naming even when playing abroad. The exception, fwiw, is for Korean baseball players who switch their given and family names to fit the Western naming method.
