Blanco
Welcome to Role Models, a new selective club creation signup 13th June 2008: Richard Scudamore, chief executive of the Premier League receives an anonymous email citing specific, detailed examples of irregular betting patterns on Premier League matches. 15th June 2008: Scudamore launches an investigation into match fixing in the Premier League, following further proof being sent anonymously. 21st June 2008: The Premier League and Football League begin joint legal proceedings against the 20 Premier League clubs. 23rd June 2008: The jury finds unanimously against the Premier League clubs, and all of them are expelled from the Football League. 29th June 2008: Hull City, the final club remaining, gives up hope of finding a new buyer willing to take on the prospect of Premiership wage budgets and maintenance costs on Blue Square Premier revenues, and is the twentieth club in six days to be formally dissolved. 1st July 2008: Mysterious Montenegrin billionaire, Ivan Nikolic, presents a scheme to the Premier League executive board, which is said to be ‘under serious consideration’ 2nd July 2008: The plan is accepted, and this document is published on the FA and Premier League websites, and most national newspapers the following day: Football supporters of England,I am Ivan Nikolic, and without exaggeration I would say that I am here to save your national sport. I am here to offer four hundred million pounds in cold, hard cash to be equally split between twenty clubs. This is to be given on top of a fresh, new stadium for each and every club as well as the provision of excellent youth and training facilities. What I need from the twenty lucky people who will run these clubs is an idea. And not just any idea. I want clubs based around players, icons of the game. I want teams with style, flair, elan. I want teams with steel, with spirit, with heart. I want these clubs to be different to the money making, bloodsucking clubs that the bled the supporters dry and messed them about with early kickoffs, late kickoffs and all of that. Choose your role models, base your teams around them, and twenty thoughtful, and lucky winners will be club chairmen this time next week.
Blanco
How this all fits in with FM: If you haven’t already worked it out, your job is to replace one of the clubs currently in the Premiership with a club of your own. This club must be based around the style of a player, present or past, who has inspired. This can be anyone from a world beater to a cult hero, but the idea is that that the club, and the new manager will reflect the style of play. You will choose a role model, who if not already retired will join your team. If he is retired, then you must choose a current player who has a similar playing style and mentality. You must also choose a protégé, a player who has a similar style to your current player and be under the age of 23. So, 20 clubs will be created with the following attributes: • 30,000 all seater stadium with potential capacity of 60,000 • Both Training and Youth Facilities to be fixed at 15 • Reputation fixed at 6500 • A chairman with 15 for Business and Resources, whose loyalty is undying • A manager with CA of 130 and PA of 150, who loves the club and has a five year contract The game will be played on the 9.03 patch with an unedited database aside from the changes that we put in. I will load the Premiership and Championship divisions in England, along with a selection of top leagues from around Europe. If anyone has any particular favourites, I am open to suggestions. The rest is up to you! When signing up, please consider that this is not a first come first served signup. Applications will be judged on the quality of the idea, and creativity and originality are much more likely to gain you a place. Applications may be sent by PM, or posted on this thread. I will consider all applications made up until midday on Sunday the 12th of April, after which I will publish decisions on the applications. I will try and do the database editing on the Monday, but be aware that this will require a large amount of editing so please be patient. In depth updates will be published every season, with transfer and league table updates every season. I have purloined parts of the signup form, and some other ideas, from Wegason’s excellent signup The Key To Success, which should prove an excellent read if the updates live up to the incredibly high standard that he has set with the original posts. I remember a match when I was a kid, he had fallen over in the box and couldn't get up to make a tackle, so instead he just stuck his head in front of a ball that a striker was about to boot! Amazingly he didn't get booted in the face, but I loved that never say die attitude and his willingness to put himself at risk. Players don't do that anymore. Arsene Wenger is the perfect example of that. Also, Arsene Wenger brought total football to Arsenal. They played the best, most sublime football since the Dutch in the 80s. That's why I have chosen players with the most flair. Also, as you can see, the chairmen isn't one to oversee things. He would want THE best, 100% of the time. However, it will be interesting to see whether Messi and Ronaldinho can live up to his expectations.

Zola won the FWA Footballer of the year in 1997, received the Order of the British Empire (OBE) and entered the English Football Hall of Fame in 2006 for his outstanding contribution to football over the years. His magical skills earned comments such as "Fantasy, magic!" from Claudio Ranieri and Alex Ferguson described him as "a clever little so-and-so." I have picked David Villa as the player still playing because David is an extremely gentle and polite man - championing many charities and never asking for fame or the lime light. He also is a magnificent striker, with some amazing skills on and off the ball, so his personality so closely reflects Zola. For the protege, Karim Benzema is a softly spoken Algerian born French player - some might say his role model was Zinedine Zidane but his personality is far from that - his skills are not in dispute, an awesome goal scorer from the age of 9 with a "magic" touch, he finds strength through training and getting better, and so far in his life he has not asked for any attention and is planning on starting an academy in Algeria for young African footballers - and still at a very early age reflecting his passionate yet kind personality. The attacking midfielder has been a big factor in the MLS and has recently joined hometown Toronto FC for more success. He has been a clutch performer at every level including 2 game-winning goals in MLS Cup finals, 2 MVP's in those games and 2 game winning goals in all-star games against Real Madrid and West Ham. I chose his protege to be Jonathan de Guzman who is also Canadian born but like Owen Hargreaves with England he has decided to play for Holland. He hasn't had very much success on the international stage as of yet but I believe with proper guidance he will be a menace for years to come! He proved himself at Leeds to be one of the best players in the world on his day and his influence on football in Australia, in particular, is immense. Fabian Delph is a young, creative midfielder who is starting to make his name at Leeds and could very well go on to have a simillar impact on the club as Kewell did. Edit: Previously Bruce Djite(I'm not sure if he was even under 23) was my protege, but I changed to Fabian Delph, as I'm trying to get a player who is comparable to Kewell at Leeds and Delph is more the creative, young midfielder and this is more similar to Kewell as opposed to a striker who relies of strength and pace. Although not the most gifted of players he would walk over broken glass for his team and would do whatever was necessary to ensure a win. Sometimes however his willingness to win got him in trouble with referees but Kevin Ball was regarded as a cult hero where ever he went. Because of this determination i have chosen Kevin Ball to be the clubs role model as I believe passion and hardwork to be one of the vital components in making a team successful. I have chosen Essien as although he is much better technically than Kevin Ball he still has the determination and drive to lead a team from the heart of midfield and he is also willing to play a versatile role for the benefit of the team. Cantona was an exciting forward who scored 80 goals in five seasons for Manchester United, including a number or winners in 1-0 victories in 1995/96 which helped United overturn a ten-point deficit to beat Newcastle United to the title. However, Cantona had a fiery personality and was never far from controversy. The Frenchman was voted PFA Player of the Year in 1994 but also found fame for the wrong reason including being sent off a record four times in two seasons. His important role in helping United win the title in 1996 came on the back of a 9 month ban from world football for launching a kung-fu kick on a Crystal Palace fan after Cantona had been sent off for kicking out at a Palace player. The suspension saw him stripped of the French national team captaincy and subsequently replaced in the set up by Zinedine Zidane. Despite this, Cantona scored an impressive twenty goals in 45 appearances for his country. Cantona is a rare breed of forward who was not only technically gifted but also a hard worker and fighter. His desire and passion for Manchester United often got him into trouble but also won the adulation of the supporters. Didier Drogba and Wayne Rooney are of a similar mould to Cantona in that both and integral to their team and their country but both often court controversy on the pitch. Drogba has been accused repeatedly of diving in the Premiership, particularly by Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez who claimed to have made a four-year dossier of Drogba’s diving. The Ivorian also had frequent clashes with Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic. In 2006 Drogba elbowed the defender and in 2008 Vidic lost a tooth and required stitches to a lip injury caused by Drogba. In the Champions League Final later that season Drogba was sent of for slapping Vidic. Rooney also has a history of sendings off, both for Manchester United and for England but has also scored important goals for both. Like Cantona, his fiery temperament is loved by United fans. He has already won the Premier League twice, the Champions League and the League Cup. Manager Csaba László will set his side up, primarily, in a fashion similar to Cantona's style of play. When his team have the ball they will attack with a degree of flamboyancy often through an attacking playmaker. Without the ball they will press and harry the opposition with the never-say-die attitude of Cantona. László's discipline, man management and motivational skills will be essential in keeping his fiery players focussed on their goals.

My views on Total Football have influenced my tactical selections. But he would drop deep to confuse his markers or suddenly move to the wing with devastating effect. No one had seen a centre forward like that before. Due to the way Cruyff played his game he is still referred to as "the total footballer". He's main skills were his technical ability, his speed and his acceleration. However above all he had great vision. The combination of his vision and technical ability meant that he could see and make passes that nobody could see, or would have been able to do. Lionel Messi - You wouldn't have to argue hard to say that Messi is the Cruyff of today's game. He is very good with the ball, a great dribbler, and can see and make a pass. He's lightning quick and a good finisher. He's also very versatile and can play anywhere in attack. Normally he is given license to roam and will pop up anywhere, much like Cruyff. David Silva - Ok he isn't a striker, but he has the same qualities as Cruyff. He's fast, technically very sound, and has a good eye for a pass as well as being able to pull it off. He's also very versatile, being able to play anywhere in an attacking role in midfield. The style of football I've chosen - I've chosen to try and create total football in the style I think it might work today. It's an attacking style with its beauty coming from the interchange of players and vision and passing between players. The pressing style employed by total football is also employed here. It's also a very clean style of play in contrast to the dirty "Catenaccio" which was around at the same time Personally I think this is a very good idea, and look forward to following it, whether I am or aren't in it. fdawsoniv
Oh and I presume we aren't allowed to select players already chosen?Otherwise Messi would be my Cruyff impersonator. Ultimately, each team must have different role models and proteges, as those players are going to play for them, so there obviously can't be two Messi, etc . . . However, since it's not first-come, first-serve, and rather selected by the OP, I wouldn't say you can't choose a player already selected. But having a unique role model would probably increase your odds of selection.

Blanco
My thoughts so far (these criticisms don't apply to all applications!): In general, we have some very good applications here, if some minor adjustments are made. Sorry for not making this clear initially, but can we try and keep names at least vaguely sensible? The further information section has been sadly neglected by some of the applicants... Something lime "Cos he is well good" doesn't put you in a good light... Also, the protege is meant to be someone who plays in a similar way to the role model you mentioned first... Milan no wide midfielders) Second Preferred Formation: 4-3-3 (DM, 2 MC) Defensive Formation: 4-5-1 Attacking Formation: 4-2-4 Further Information (Background info about your role model, reasons for choosing him etc): Roy Keane- Who would be a better role model for a team who bases its image on hard work, hard tackling, and just hard nosed, down to business, grinding play. Roy Keane, one of the greatest players Manchester United ever had during one of its golden ages of football. Many say his is a style that is leaving football, but Stoke United are determined to make sure it lives on and bring this style to every match. Gennaro Gattuso- The Snarler. Not much more needs to be said about Gattuso, he plays hard, takes no prisoners and is incredibly tough. The perfect role model for a team that is looking to make a name for itself. I chose him because his style of play is something that I like. In a world with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Didier Drogba, players who dive all the time, its nice to have a player who if he's down then its because he can't get up, not because he is trying his hardest to draw a foul. Mathieu Flamini- French international formerly of Arsenal but now with A.C. Milan. Has quickly taken a liking to Gattuso and has even gained the nickname Fla-tuso as he is constantly compared with the Snarler. A technically gifted midfielder as well, will hopefully help this squad can some link up play to the front and can help with goalscoring, in addition to his no-nonsense hard tackling. Style of Play- A tough, tight man-marking system that is meant to give the opponents no room to breathe. Our tackling will be hard, so I only want the best of tacklers and I expect their to be some cards but we will not allow dirty play, only clean, hard tackles. On offense, we will look to play the ball from the middle to the full-backs making runs to the corners of the box and try to get goals off crosses, so fast, durable fullbacks and strong strikers with good heads for the ball are also necessary. Gattuso will be the rock in the midfield and will be looking to mentor Flamini.

SAFC 14
It's ok the nickname was just a random choice to be honest. Just think it would be easier with the sides having different nicknames.

EvilDave
Excellent idea for a signup - it'll be interesting to see whether it's the clubs with the 'best' players who succeed or those with a stronger philosophy. I'll be following irrespective of acceptance. Club name: Sheffield Cool Nickname: The Icemen Stadium Name: The Fridge Club location: Sheffield Role Model: Dennis Bergkamp Designated Player (the role model, or if no longer playing, someone with a similar style): Diego (Werder Bremen) Protege (under the age of 23): Carlos Vela (Arsenal) Chairman Name: Robert Dillon Chairman Nationality: English Chairman Date of Birth: 19/01/81 Chairman Patience: 18 Chairman Interference: 4 Home Strip Kit Type: Plain w/ Trim Main Colour: White Other Colour: Trim Colour: Sky Blue Away strip Kit Type: Striped Main Colour: Orange Other Colour: Black Trim Colour: Black Preferred Formation: 4-4-1-1 Style of Play: Attacking Marking: Man (Mixed if possible - ideally only the backline and any DM should man-mark) Starting Manager Name: Roberto Baggio Nationality: Italian DOB: 18/2/67 You have 120 points to split between the following, each out of 20: Buying Players: 14 Hardness of Training: 10 Judging Player Ability: 15 Judging Player Potential: 18 Level of Discipline: 9 Man Management: 11 Mind Games: 4 Motivating: 13 Squad Rotation: 8 Working With Youngsters: 18 Tactical Attributes (you have 200 points to spend here and each attribute is out of 20): Attacking: 17 Depth: 12 Directness: 8 Dirtiness Allowance (this will be 20-the points you spend here): 10 Flamboyancy: 18 Flexibility: 14 Free Roles: 16 Marking: 13 Offside: 10 Pressing: 7 Sitting Back: 5 Tactical Knowledge: 15 Tempo: 15 Use of Playmaker: 19 Use of Subs: 10 Width: 11 Preferred Formation: 4-4-1-1 Second Preferred Formation: 4-2-3-1 Defensive Formation: 4-5-1 Attacking Formation: 4-3-3 Further Information (Background info about your role model, reasons for choosing him etc): Dennis Bergkamp is widely known as one of the most skilled footballers of the modern era, if not all time. Renowned for his superb vision and calmness on the ball, his calculated approach on the field coupled with a modest, professional attitude off it earned him the 'Iceman' moniker at Arsenal after spells at Ajax and Inter. His trademark was the curling shot into the top corner, possible due to the space he created for himself by dropping deeper than expected of a traditional striker. In Werder Bremen's Diego we have similar qualities - the eye for a killer ball, the ability to score excellent goals and an aura of calmness as he dictates play. Similarly Carlos Vela, already praised for his chipping abilities and coolness under pressure, is showing signs of quality as a deep-lying striker, equally able to convert and create. Both players are developing reputations are understated personalities, more concerned with their game than their celebrity status, and as such fans of their respective clubs are able to place greater faith in their players. Sheffield Cool are a club that very much reflects the Bergkamp ethos - attractive, attacking football played on their own terms, without the flashy arrogance or kick-and-rush primacy of many leagues. The Icemen tag should not, however, be mistaken for a lack of passion - Bergkamp himself was sent off 4 times in his time at Arsenal, and the team should not afraid to get stuck in for the cause. Gad
Club name: Exeter United Nickname: Ex Uns Stadium Name: Your Away Field Club location: Exeter Role Model: Zlatan Ibrahimovic Designated Player (the role model, or if no longer playing, someone with a similar style): Zlatan Ibrahimovic Protege (under the age of 23): Angel Di Maria (Benfica) Chairman Name: Jazeer Al-Habda Chairman Nationality: Saudi Arabia Chairman Date of Birth: 5th September 1963 Chairman Patience: 10 Chairman Interference: 14 Home Strip Kit Type: Quarters Main Colour: Green Other Colour: White Trim Colour: Black Away strip Kit Type: Quarters Main Colour: Gold Other Colour: Black Trim Colour: Green Preferred Formation: 4-3-3 standard Style of Play: Attacking free-flowing Marking: Zonal Starting Manager Name: Sven-Gøran Eriksson Nationality: Swedish DOB: 5th of February 1948 You have 120 points to split between the following, each out of 20: Buying Players: 13 Hardness of Training: 16 Judging Player Ability: 12 Judging Player Potential: 12 Level of Discipline: 7 Man Management: 15 Mind Games: 14 Motivating: 12 Squad Rotation: 7 Working With Youngsters: 12 Tactical Attributes (you have 200 points to spend here and each attribute is out of 20): Attacking: 20 Depth: 11 Directness: 7 Dirtiness Allowance (this will be 20-the points you spend here): 6 Flamboyancy: 20 Flexibility: 18 Free Roles: 18 Marking: 8 Offside: 8 Pressing: 11 Sitting Back: 8 Tactical Knowledge: 14 Tempo: 10 Use of Playmaker: 15 Use of Subs: 12 Width: 14 Preferred Formation: 4-3-3 standard (with attacking mentality but that setup) Second Preferred Formation: 4-4-2 attacking Defensive Formation: 4-5-1 defensive Attacking Formation: 4-3-3 attacking Further Information (Background info about your role model, reasons for choosing him etc): Obviously, I am from Sweden so choosing Ibrahimovic wasn't hard, to me best player there is, the most complete, mixes strength with heavenlike technique.. all you need in a player, he got it... Di Maria is an exciting young player, so love to see him around The chairman is one of the rich oil-lords of saudi arabia, a signature I've used on a few occasions actually The whole idea of this club is to attack in a free flowing way, not necessarily sacrificing defence but attack first... a kind of score 1 more than we concede mentality, and as long as Ibrahimovic is playing, play through him, obvious captain and superstar, here to prove his quality in english prem. for you critics focus on established players, don't have to be the best but technically talented players. and signing a few unknown youths once in a while to hope finding a few hidden gems... but most of all focus on technique... Exeter is the town for this team, simply because Jazeer (the chairman) chose it as a safer place than London to keep focus out of his "business"... A man known to many City fans as a striker, a goalscorer, and a legend. The Goat spent five years at the club from 1998-2003, and was City's top scorer for 4 consecutive seasons. Since leaving football he has become a Chairman, and it is for this reason he has become chairman at BMFC. He is also a role model - in Bermuda 21st July is Shaun Goater Day - and thus I have picked him as my role model. He is retired from football, but another man who could have been just as successful with the Citizens - if they had not gone bust! - Brazilian striker Robinho is the clubs designated player. Youngster Daniel Sturridge- who also has a long career ahead of him, has been picked as protege
