Premiership / Championship swaparound - set up of experiment

Recommended Posts

THE GREAT PREMIERSHIP EXODUS

AIM OF THE EXPERIMENT

- To examine the impact of 72 Premiership ‘stars’ and 24 ‘star’ managers if they were placed in the Championship.

- To examine how the Premiership teams would react to their loss of stars/manager.

- To examine how international squads and line-ups are impacted by reputations of clubs/leagues.

DATABASE

- The game will be played using an edited large database on Patch 9.3

- Six ‘star’ players from the top four Premiership teams and three ‘star’ players from the rest of the Premiership clubs will be drafted to Championship clubs.

- The twenty Premiership managers will be drafted to Championship clubs.

- Four international managers (Capello, Burley, Toshack and Trappatoni) will also be drafted to Championship clubs.

- The twenty four Championship managers will be drafted to the Premiership teams / international teams.

- The wages of the ‘star’ players will be modified to top Championship levels.

- The ‘stars’ will all be assigned a future transfer back to their Premiership club after 3-10 years (this will be determined by age to ensure that they will be at an age to impact on their return) so that they will remain at their new club for an appropriate length of time.

THE GAME

- The game will be played using only the English league down to Championship level.

- I will be an unemployed manager in the game using the holiday function.

- The ‘star’ players will be determined through advice from other CSE forum members.

- The placement of the players will be determined using a random draft.

UPDATES

- Updates over the next two weeks will probably be more frequent than they will be in the long run. I will aim for one season update every week where possible. Obviously, this will depend on what I need to get done. This will be my first experiment so I am venturing into the unknown as well.

QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER

- How will the top four teams react to their manager and star player losses? How will they perform in the Champions League and Premiership? How will the other teams Premiership teams perform? Will they catch up and overtake the top four?

- Will the Premiership teams sack their managers? If so, who will replace them?

- Will the ‘star’ managers stay with their new Championship teams? Will they hold onto their jobs even if they are struggling with their Championship side?

- Once we know the drafted players and managers, which teams will be promoted to the Premiership? How much of an impact will the ‘star’ players have?

- Will the ‘star’ players retain their places in their national sides despite the lower reputation of their new league and clubs?

WHAT NEXT?

- Feel free to ask any questions to clarify my experiment.

- Please post your opinions on the questions I have posed.

- In the next post, I will ask for your opinions about the 'star' players at each Premiership team.

Please could you identify the two star players (current ability, real life) at each Premiership club in your opinion. Please don't include loan players. Please select four for the top four teams.

Interesting how similar a lot of the responses are. Maybe the EPL doesn't have as many star players as everyone thinks.

'Stars' is subjective. A lot of smaller clubs only have one or two really quality players.

It would be the same in any league. Most clubs have 1 or 2 players/stars who the fans believe are the best.

Interesting how similar a lot of the responses are. Maybe the EPL doesn't have as many star players as everyone thinks.

Or the star players at each club are very obvious?!

Started tallying up last night and their are few surprises amongst the big four. The stand out players are clear to everyone. What will be interesting is how the clubs react to losing six of these in the experiment. If the 'stars' are that obvious, it maybe doesn't say that much for the rest - particularly Man United and Chelsea who have only had six suggested so far. Is it a case that Man United and Chelsea rely on their big six? I've had more suggestions for Arsenal - does that mean the Gunners will suffer less when they lose their big six?

It is interesting to see the teams where the votes are very similar - Boro and Bolton. Very few suggestions and runaway leaders. I'm thinking these might be the teams to suffer most. On the flip side, West Brom have lots of suggestions and only one runaway choice. Maybe it won't affect them so much?

Predictions

Arsenal to win the league.

West Brom to stay up.

Boro and Bolton to go down.

Chelsea and Man United to struggle to make Champions League.

Maybe I didn't put it as well as I could have.

I just thought that before you'd maybe have thought there would be a wider spread of votes than there's turned out to be. Take Man United and Liverpool for example, fighting for the Premiership you'd maybe think they'd be very strong throughout the squad but I think almost every vote has gone for the same four players. They don't have two standouts followed by five or six players all staking a claim to be the club's third and fourth most important players, they tend to have two stand outs and then another two very good players.

The part I've highlighted in your post is basically the point I was trying to make, but clearly I should have made it a bit more detailed.

There's also a lot of goalkeepers being picked and they will be a lot harder to replace, especially for the smaller clubs, when they're taken out.

I'm definately interested to see how the League will turn out with the star players gone.

There may be a lot of goalkeepers suggested BUT there are not many goalkeepers looking likely to moved/drafted. Jaaskelainen, Cech, Reina and Gordon are looking likely - maybe James and Carson too - but out of 72 drafted, thats not so many. Bolton, again, may struggle to replace Jaaskelainen.

You could always go into the editor and pick players with highest CA

Hmm could have done. But this way, we get peoples ideas of who will be the biggest misses. There will be attributes that will affect this other than their CA - PA, ambition, determination etc ...

Voting is now closed. I'll tally up and let you all know who is going to be heading for the Championship very soon.
