Patriotism

Recommended Posts

Should this be a hidden mental stat for next years game? Its just a thought really as i have seen El Hadji Diouf walk away from his senegal side today at the age of 28 but you have beckham who is still fighting for his england career...Obviously different countries arguably playing at different levels...

But he stat could mean who retires from international duty earlier or maybe when you withdraw them from the squad or restrict them to 45 minutes they are unhappy...

Just a thought

I think it's hard to tell. Some players, such as Carragher, are patriotic and want to play for their countries whenever they can.

But he didn't get the chances, and was going to a load of foreign countries to sit on the bench.

So he just quit and concentrated on prolonging his club career.

He has high patrotism but was more comitted to his club. How would this be inputted?

I don't think it adds much to the game tbh, at the moment players will play for their country unless they get too old and/or aren't getting many games after having a successful international playing career.

Beckham for example, if he wasn't getting games with England then he would most definatly retire from International Football. But he's still our best option on the right so he's going to get games.

Beckham has always stated that he's never quit international football and would always be available for selection

perhaps not patriotism, but split into club and country committment, some players will want to stay with a club and do their best for them (not always because its their favourite club or for money) like if a club was doing badly and looking at relegation, some players would want to stay and fight to help save the club rather than move to another team doing better, players with low club committment might change clubs often (anelka, belamy for instance) whereas players with high committment might stay at the clubs forever (giggs, scholes, gerrard etc) even though the club they play for arent their favourite clubs (scholes is oldham athletic iirc)

that coupled with country committment means some players might not like being removed from international squads, or mean that the club they join domestically might be swayed desisively with the internationals in mind (ie micheal owen, if he moved to a team like utd/chelsea/arsenal where he didnt get to play every game he wouldnt get in the england squad, but if he moved somewhere like everton or villa where he'd be the main striker, get to play alot of games, get his fitness and goal threat back then he would probably get selected)

i know that to some repect this is already covered by the loyalty stat, but it could certainly do with being improved on

Its hardly a lack of patriotism to walk away from your international side even if you are getting games. You may not like certain players playing for the international side or the manager or maybe a variety of reasons. For example Scholes was still wanted by the england squad even after he retired from international football but he left because in the past the england midfield had never been the style he suited and it didnt look like changing in the future so he gave up. And also look at riquelme, he didn't leave the Argentina squad because he is "unpatriotic" he left because he doesnt like maradonna as the manager.

Then there's Adebayor's constant on-off affair with Togo, with Adebayor saying he doesn't want to play for Togo as they couldn't guarantee his safety (before jetting off to play for Togo).

I don't think it's patriotism - perhaps a club/national team affinity sort of thing, where some players are more willing to play for Internationals than others, who could care less.

He also said he didnt want to leave America and now look where he is lol.

And he left America to keep his International career alive, he wants to go to the next WC more than the money he can get from LA Galaxy. AFAIK, he paid for the loan fee himself or part of it
