FM 08 - Building a Good Reputation: AI Experiment

It is always discussed that a good reputation can be the difference between getting the job done and failing to get home and lose at the final hurdle, so I wanted to test that with the reputation of a series of nations. So an Experiment is the best way to do this, which of my three groups will come out on top? Or will it be someone else.

Right well I didn't get one done yesterday as I ended up at work for 12 hours instead of 8, so hoping to type the Nations January Update tonight before bed (5pm now) and then if I can the End of Season updates

Edit: Well amazed to realise how long each nation update is going to take me. I have put 3 hours into this one and not completed it, so my basic comment is going to be that I will continue to update, but aiming to keep up the target of 1 a day is nigh on impossible without getting a large load done on the weekend ready to go. Game is currently 1 year ahead of my update point, so that is 5 extra updates ready to write up. So I will be working on that over the next few nights and early in the weekend hoping to have some up as soon as I can.

Well most of this lot seem to have plummeted down the rankings (With the exception of Germany), as their leagues are running these nations appear to have generated the most players. I know its a very quick decision to make, but it does appear that more players makes it worse in FM08, it is seeming early that the greys problem is still there. (Hopefully this corrects in the long term)

The greys are annoying at the beginning, but they will sort themselves out pretty quickly.

Any surprises, like Albania in the top 10?

Well I will say that Poland (16th) are flying up the rankings, and if they keep going the way they are then they will crack the top ten. As for other surprises, some of the teams knocked out of the Euro 08 are annoying (Greys field day). I know it will sort itself out just have to fight through to that point, as for my updates, when it comes to July Updates I will include screenshots (Any that anyone suggests, as well as my own selection), and also if there is something more the update needs to keep the info just post a not suggesting it.

Well I must say this group appear to have been considerably more steady in their positions over the last 6 months, they seem to have dropped a little, but nothing on te scale of their Leagued Nation equivalents. With 3 of the 6 nations producing extra players it will be interesting to see if this will continue and build them a good base to support their stars.

Well it is clear that the greys have had an effect so far, the top 3 controls have climbed into the top of the World Rankings almost immediately, while Lithuania have managed a large jump up the table as well, attached here is the top 10 World rankings to show where nations are at. Having accepted a position at Hoffenheim (German 2D) for 2008/09 season should mean a step up for the Brazilian, but its going to need a slightly improved effort. His effort at Sandhausen was not as good as it could've been. Moving as a free transfer would have to be a let down though as he would think he should be valued higher than that.

With 2 more years on his contract at Krka (Slovenian clubs liked signing them longer term), Sp Fullback will just continue plying his trade. With such a stellar season behind him, the club are surely going to make sure he plays every week as they try for promotion in 2008/09. The small ability lift is probably due more to the lower level of competition than a bad reflection on him.

A move up the leagues can only help him as he has had the biggest Current Ability lift of anyone so far. A great season for club and country has seen him improve greatly, if he performs similarly in Serie B we could see him getting transfered again in 2009.

Having joined Tampere Utd on March 21st Ru Defender has been attempting to build himself a new reputation in a new country. Our first player to transfer between countries he joins the Finnish crowd. Now playing in the Premier Division of Finland, with a safe top half team, could he become our first entrant into Europe.

Summary

Well an interesting second 6 months for the Defenders, was great to see Ru Defender & Tu Fullback get deserved transfers to bigger clubs. Should be good to follow these two as both are improving quickly and both have new clubs to challenge for titles with. The others put in a good all round performance, but nothing spectacular, it is interesting to see how big the difference in improvements can be.

A stunning season for the Tunisian, 5 goals & 13 assists, its no wonder that Stara Lubovna want to hold onto him, he will be hoping he can get noticed by some bigger clubs this season and try to move up the ranks.

Summary

The Croatian clubs seem to drop players like flies, they don't want anything to do with the foreigners. Other than them though, the midfielders seem to have done pretty well right across the board, some great stats and a range of changes in CA, surprised more of them have not been noticed by the big clubs yet.

Looking like a pretty good player, showing good skills both internationally and at club level, though has had a poor increase following low training. With over 50 appearances in season 1 alone he has had a lot of game time, possibly too much to improve as he should.

Transferring to Furth for £4.6k this offseason to get a shot at the German 2nd Division as he becomes the second player to change nations. A great season at Lucenec as he became Fans Player of the Year clearly led to his transfer, a lot of interest around the world as all the clubs saw him as a target.

Well after starting looking through the Nations update I am putting together I am worried that nations rep doesn't change very much, over 12 months they are all still stuck at 1000, this seems insane.

Ok so this has been killed off, not because I have FM09 back, but purely because I found out that nation reputations are actually static. Basically meaning your little nation will never be better than England...

I don't think so mate. I was simulating India, I increased the youth facilities of all the clubs, gave them a youth academy to see what the results would be. Although the standard of the players greatly improved, I holidayed as the nation's manager for about 20 years and we've won a few Asia cups and we're ranked 13 in the world now.

Although I think there's a limit on how many 'excellent' regens there can be from a country (Brazil produces the most and so on) I think every country has potential to generate a lot of average - good players.

Clearly didn't read what I said. The reputation of nations stays the same always. Yes they can climb up the world rankings, but no your reputation is still the same, given that this experiment was about reputation it is no longer valid. So I am actually right by reputation India can never be better than England. Want to read the whole thread before posting? And also I am not your "Mate"
