SI Don't Forget The CHAN in FM2010

Recommended Posts

I know you guys are pretty ignorant about African football but the finals of a major international tournament called the African Nations Championship (CHAN), is currently being played in Ivory Coast. It is completely separate from the African Cup of Nations and exclusively featuring players who are active in their own national championship and qualified to play the ongoing season giving home based players the opportunity to represent their country. CHAN has regional qualifying rounds and is being held very two years.

Please check out the following link to the full competition regulations on the official CAF website.

The Wiki is also not bad for a brief summery.

Given that only African players take part, I think a level of research would be required that hasn't yet taken place. If SI expanded the game to include more playable African leagues, more research would be done and they'd probably implement this competition. Seems unlikely at the moment while the research isn't there and pretty much the whole continent is unplayable.

Personally, I would advocate adding some more African leagues beyond South Africa if possible.

While I'm a fan of African football on an international level, I'll admit to being fairly ignorant about club football. So while I've little interest in seeing the Senegalese league, or even the Nigerian league, for example, added, I would like to see CHAN included. That said, I think SI would need to recruit more volunteer researches first, and that's often easier said than done.

I would love the chance to manage in Egypt or Tunisia. Clubs like Zamalek, Al-Ahly or Esperance Tunis spring to mind. Huge clubs on the continent who I would love the chance to manage. Nigeria, Ghana and Ivory Coast all have a certain appeal to me. But, of course, SI can't commit to adding swathes of a new continent to the game just because of what I want!

There are plenty of domestic based players in the database for all the major african nations. I use a retain players DDT for all the top clubs in every nation to improve the international setup and have found my games it to be very balanced.

it would also be a fantastic place to scoop some potentially great prospects for pittens

Indeed, Africa is a a huge market of footballing talent in the real world but massively neglected in the game. There is some real talent on display at the CHAN this year, it will become a stampede of scouts like the African Nations Cup.
