Once i've downloaded the demo, i'll get going on a Wycombe Wanderers page

Yeah, planning to wait until there are a few more to put them on the site.

I'll ask to make a new thread when there are some more.

Fwiw, I've changed the specs bit.
Looks good

Once i've downloaded the demo, i'll get going on a Wycombe Wanderers page :thup:Nice to see you back Hamilton, it's been a while since you posted here :)

SCIAG has given is permission to use his Reading thread on the site. I'll post up my Lazio and Wigan guides tomorrow.

Done. Any more that we get permission for, I'll put them up if someone else doesn't beforehand.

Jammy - I think you said about waiting in the GTPG thread whilst people are changing their threads, remember they can be edited on the FM wiki so it wouldn't be a problem if we added them now.

ahmufcwafc
16-10-2009, 07:30
It wouldn't be a problem now, but I think if we were to continually bump up the thread in GPTG for the next few months, we'd only start to get on people's nerves. As well as that, it's much easier to add the threads to the site when they're finished.

We should leave it for now and come back when most of the threads are done IMO.

Nice to see you back Hamilton, it's been a while since you posted here :)

I've been very, very busy with coursework for my GCSE's and other personal stuff recently, i've hardly had time to think about FM recently tbh!

I'll be doing the odd article from now on, but i might not be getting FM10, so i probably won't be able to contribute much this year (Not that i did much for FM09 tbf :D)

ahmufcwafc
16-10-2009, 19:20
Fair enough! Is it that you don't like this year's FM or are you just too busy?

arsenal_2111

I think everyone has a busy year this year - that's what we get for having 3 out of the 4 regulars still at school...

Am I the only one who isn't then?

What's year 12? I'm in whatever the last year of school is over in England is.

IIRC if I was living in the UK I'd be in the year 3 years ahead of GCSE year, whatever that is - if that makes any sense :D

ssestig
16-10-2009, 19:51
No need Jammy.

Alan - Year 12 is the year after GCSEs. It is the first year of A-Levels. Usually Year 12s are 16 or 17.

I'm 17 and actually it was two years ago that I did the Irish GCSE's. That sounds about right.

Busy with school, haven't had time to download the new demo yet because of my mammoth amount of History coursework, 20 pages so far, handwritten

Is it okay if I leave you two in charge of the club guides for FM10? I really don't know what I'm doing with regards layout of club pages, plus I don't have a whole lot of time on my hands. Think it's best if I just stay out of it altogether.

Thanks stig

I just added the infobox to the Lazio page and removed the gptg disclaimer - technically it's in violation of our house rules so I thought it'd be a bit hypocritical to leave it in :D

Adding Disclaimers

You may have noticed that there is a box at the end of certain pages giving credit to people who have given us permission to use/have written up content and passed it on to us for our own use on the site. The purpose of these disclaimers are to give credit to those who we have posted up pages for. It is not necessary to add one for yourself to your if you are a member of this site. The history already shows who originally created the page so there is no need. Disclaimers that are posted up by yourself, for yourself will be deleted at the admins' discretion.

Been redoing the main page, it was all a bit out of date now FM10 is released.

Selected article has also been changed, however this will be changed again in 5 days (for Novembers one) which is why I chose one which probably won't generate much interest. No point having a very popular one just for 5 days. (it's 'Bugs' now fwiw)

Also, I've removed the links to the FMH and Fansites category - there wasn't enough in either of them to warrant them being on the main page imo.

It needed changing, I agree

I removed the countdown clock because it looked dodgy and screwed up the green textbox a bit. I also centred the link to the FM10 category at the bottom.

arsenal_2111
24-10-2009, 13:22
 to both of those things :)

The countdown looked strange, agreed. I tried to get the background to that weird green that most of it is (could we change this to a different, more FMy colour?) but I couldn't find how, andknew I'd mess it up. But it did look a bit strange anyway, agreed.

The Category thing wasn't centered because if it was, it took it half under the image and looked dodgy. But now the countdown has gone, it's better in the middle. It was only put on the right because of the countdown

I've bolded the 'podcasts', 'blogs' and 'Q&A Sessions', do you think it looks alright? I'm not sure about it, I don't think it's noticeable enough to make it worthwhile, it could do with having 'podcasts', 'blogs' and 'Q&A Sessions' as the first words on each point but that would make it read badly imo.

Oh, and under the logo, could we add a 'SI Affiliate' badge like most (or most that I've seen) other SI affiliates have? If the footballmanagerwiki logo moved up, with the SI Affiliate underneath it, I think it'd look alright.

ahmufcwafc
24-10-2009, 13:25
Agreed, I don't like the bold text either. What I think you should do is remove the bold text that you just put in and make the links to pages bold.

If you can find the SI affiliate logo, I'll try and have it added. I tried looking for it once, but couldn't find anything.

arsenal_2111
24-10-2009, 13:28
I've reworded it, so the points start with what they are going to discuss.

Do you think it looks a bit too robotic and unnatural? If so, I'll change it back.

I spent about 30 seconds throwing together, so I know it's crap. Obviously the affiliate logo needs resizing and probably shouldn't be in the left hand corner.

New coaches atributes needed for 7 star training
ddm = determination + discipline + motivating

strength, aerobics

fit * 9 + ddm * 2 >= 270 -> 7 >= 240 -> 6 >= 210 -> 5

etc .....

This section could use a little more clarity

eg

Strength or Aerobics
Fitness*9 + ddm*2
210+ = 5
240+ = 6
270+ = 7

or even in a small table based format, just to make it more readable & understandable at a quick glance

arsenal_2111
24-10-2009, 13:59
I'd planned more for the middle, but that looks like a better idea. I'd thought like below;
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb270/arsenal_2111/wikimiddle.png
but it looks odd. If we were a FML affiliate too it'd look better with two underneath the main badge, but not with just one. Something like this then;
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb270/arsenal_2111/affiliates2-1.png

?

Second one looks good imo.

That has changed for FM10, as it is now out of 5 stars now 7. I agree that it isn't too understandable, it's taken from the forums I think. Not sure if it's worth changing it when the new one for FM10 will probably be out soon.

Thanks for pointing that out though :)

I don't like either one if I'm being honest. I think the affiliate logo should be made a good bit smaller. If it still doesn't look great after that, I think we should leave it out of the top left hand corner of the page and work it into the 'why have we set this up' box.

Do you think it looks any better now? I found it difficult to figure it out myself so I might have made a mess of it in places.

arsenal_2111
24-10-2009, 21:15
That looks a lot better Alan, however it's quite lengthy so maybe we could have it all on a separate page? When we have the FM10 spec on there too, it'll be an amazingly long page.

So maybe we should have both FM09 and FM10 on separate pages, or have FM10 on the main Training page then FM09 on its own page?

ahmufcwafc
24-10-2009, 21:17
It's not that long now I don't think. Maybe make separate pages if/when we get a FM10 guide done?

arsenal_2111
24-10-2009, 21:19
Yeah, that's what I said - but do you think it'd be best to;
- Have them all on one page
- Have a Training page, FM10 Spec page, FM09 Spec page
or
- Have a training page that has FM10 spec on it, and a FM09 Spec page.

ahmufcwafc
24-10-2009, 21:21

They all sound more or less the same to me. Go with whatever one you think is best.

arsenal_2111
24-10-2009, 21:28
Okay then, imo either
- Have seperate pages for Training/FM10 Specs/FM09 specs
or
- Have Training + FM10 Specs/FM09 Spec pages.

We'll try the latter when the FM10 specs are out - I reckon it'll be fine but it depends how long they are.

It'd be quite a lot of work mate, and I think most of them say what colour the kits are anyway but it's up to you - it would look quite good I suppose. It's another thing that might need updating when a patch is released, too. It depends if you think it'd be worth the amount of work it would need?

What do you think of this page (http://footballmanagerwiki.co.uk/index.php?title=Resource_Archiver)? I found out how to link to a certain section of the page;

Yes it is up-to-date.

Are the players supposed to have individual profiles via the links? No-one of them (from the few I tested) seem to have a profile! The links in them suggests they should have profiles.

arsenal_2111
08-11-2009, 15:02
Not all do, it depends if any have been made. Most names are links, that lead to empty pages prompting you to write a page on them.

ssestig
08-11-2009, 23:11
Once there is a page on the player the link that is currently red will turn to a blue link. Can't remember how many are blue links in the Spurs squad without looking but I don't think there is many (Button may be the only one).

On-topic: Is there a way to make the category of players for a club be on the main club page instead of in the player profiles page without having it as a sub-category?

arsenal_2111
14-11-2009, 22:40
You can link to it if you like, you can't categorise it so it appears on a page that isn't a category.

To link to it;

[[:Category:Arsenal Players|Arsenal Players]]

That'll appear as Arsenal Players.

You could put <big> </big> around it, to make it more noticeable?

First of all, apologies that i haven't put up a Wycombe article at all yet :( I've been swamped with coursework, GCSE Exams and the like over the past month, along with being ill and several trips with school, meaning i've hardly had time to load up FM! And when i have had time, i've been playing 09 to try and complete the Danny Roberts Challenge with Bernard Brennan!

Secondly, Jammy could you enter me as a Coach with the following details please:

Name: Tom Beckford
DOB: 20/09/93 (Don't hesitate to change the year to make it a bit more realistic!)
Birthplace: High Wycombe, England
Favourite Clubs: Wycombe Wanderers, FC United of Manchester

Alan Spalan - on the League Editor files, could we have a new column with either Yes/No, for 'Based on real structure'?

That way, we could include ones that aren't real (like fantasy leagues) too?

Alternatively, have a section for fake ones.

I think we should include them somewhere.

ahmufcwafc

I think that we should include both Jammy offering all options that users may want.

Also Tyoldinho has given permission to use his Fabian Delph GPTG guide for FM10. He's also given permission for any other guide he does to put on so i'll sort that out when he's PMed me when they are done.

Just flicking through some articles on the Wiki, in the Gameplay section. A couple seem very opinionated.

For example, the article 'Makings of a Long-Term Game' is opinionated such as on avoiding dual-management.

What do you think about opinionated articles? :D

And, also, just been wondering......would an explanation (article) on dynamic reputation and static reputation be beneficial? (Yes)

Hello :) I'm taking a break from posting on SI for now just in case anyone had noticed I haven't been posting much lately. That doesn't mean I'm not around - I still sign in most days to check my PMs and subscribed threads. I haven't lost interest in the wiki either, I just don't have the time to do much on the site at the moment. A quick look at Jammy's post history shows he hasn't been around much lately either, no sure what's up with him though...

Just added some categories for player profiles to help sort players by club so if people know that a player played for Carlisle that is on the wiki but can't remember his name they can search through players who have played for Carlisle and he should show up once i've (we've) added the player's clubs onto the site. It'll keep me busy before the game tonight.

Stig, are you doing individual pages for all the players that have played for each club? So, for example, each club has a page just for players that have played for them in their career?

And, where are you linking these from? A new category?

I'm trying to help update some but I can't understand where you are putting them all.

:o NO! I forgot :D

Will get on to it, expect it up sometime tomorrow, or friday.

I am starting to do what you have done for the clubs, for the national teams....well, just England so far, take a look.

It should help people managin nations see which players they have available at a glance, as well as information on how to use them. And, I know that there is already a notable players section but hardly any of them have profiles, so this will be easy for them to see the ones with profiles, and view them, as some of them won't be included in the notable players section.

Hi Nep. Anything at all would help, tbf. Some pages haven't updated to be relevant to FM10, some pages have been started but not finished (like the league editor files page, which is my bad to be fair) and there are some stubs (http://footballmanagerwiki.co.uk/index.php?title=Stubs) that have needed looking at for a while.

We're also lacking in pages related to CSE if you're interested in writing anything on that. There are some here (http://footballmanagerwiki.co.uk/index.php?title=Category:Challenges) but still not that much.

Oh, and the fanzine idea kinda fell apart months ago. Might be worth a shot bumping the old thread on it (will try to find linkage) or starting a new one. I know for sure that I won't be able to commit to something like that anymore, anyway.

Unfortunately Andrew Smylie isn't on the official SI database otherwise we would definitely have had a page on him months ago Tom. :D Most of the player histories have the English team categories at least (if they've played in England) and they should be done by the end of the year when I have time. :)

I've sorted out the team categories into a category of its own that can be accessed via the player profile section.

hamilton162
16-12-2009, 21:48

Charlie Margot (aka. mag man jr) - mag man
John Puckett - hamilton162
Bernard Brennan - hamilton162
Dong Tao - TaylorB

I think only regens that are well known around CSE (and Careers forum or anywhere else) should be written about. Will this all be on one page or are you thinking a page for every player?

Jammy isn't posting on the SI forums anymore (for now at least) btw. I spoke to him about this a few weeks ago and doesn't sound like he's interested in coming back and posting regularly any time soon. We all know he'll come crawling back eventually though... ;)

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but are legendary regen's from the CSE forum really that important?

I know this is all for fun and you guys have put in a lot of hard work already, but surely there are other things that would be more interesting from a general fan/noob of FM's point of view. The Nation guides for example, only has guides for 9 different nations.

Agreed, but it's easier said than done. Most of the regular editors on the site (myself included) haven't been able to contribute as much over the last few months for one reason or another, one of the admins has left the forums completely as well so it's tough to get anything done. Then those few who do contribute regularly to the site, well, they're only going to write about what they know and want to write about.

Since jammy's left I don't think any regular editor is an 'expert' at player/team advice so we're pretty much screwed there. We could take guides from GPTG'ers with their permission, but that's about it. Don't think there are many nation guides in GPTG anyway.

Edit: Oh, and a little update on expanding the site to FML - JJay said he'll be merging his old FML wiki with our site after the FML reset in March.

Sorry i haven't been around to help much with the HoF players stig, school has set me loads of work despite being closed!

I'm starting to change the disclaimers at the bottom of each page, NepentheZ didn't write out all of that for each player, the user who's the player is wrote it!

Just a 'little' update on the wiki:
* I'm slowly adding the player details (see post #3190 for more info)
* I'll wait until after the Feb data update/patch before adding the rest of the team guides
* I'm deleting the FM09 screenshots that are unused now
* I'm making sure that there is a page on each Prem/Football League club and will try and keep them up-to-date by asking in Footy Forum threads for each team for transfers to be forwarded to me
* Eventually all of the main team guides will look like the Crewe page and contain all of the details on there

Now I need a rest :D

Can I have some help in adding the player information boxes to each player? Just need the info box c+p-ing and adjusting from there. I've added a brief summary as a club guide for each club in League 2 and will ask in the League 2 thread if they can help me to add to each one.

Only 12 days actually stig ;)

I'm afraid that i'm going to have to pull out of contributing to the Wiki for a fair while (Not that i've contributed regularly, or even much at all! :D). I've now got GCSE exams virtually every month until the beginning of July, and i'm revising like feck for them. I'll try and contribute whenever possible, but the next 6 months are extremely busy for myself.

I'll keep popping into this thread when i see new posts, and i'll hopefully restart contributing sometime after my exams.

Keep up the good work whilst i'm gone lads

Close enough :p

3 weeks excluding any posts by me though. Hopefully with the patch being out soon we (read: I ;)) can get more of the club guides from GTPG on, update any player profiles that are wrong on the site, make sure that screenshots are on the player profile pages along with the information box that are being put on and probably some more things I can't think of at the minute :D.

Yeah, I've got them as well....apart from I haven't revised for anything yet :o

Spent yesterday playing an entire season on FM.....a day well spent IMO. Mind you....I was recovering from tonsillitis and sciatica in my back, so I didn't have much choice.

All Prem & Football League clubs have a main page on the wiki. I plan on asking in the League 1 and 2 threads in the Football Forum if people are interested in helping out by writing player profiles about players that play for their teams. That way we can get a better spread of players on the wiki. Over the next few weeks i'll do the same for the other league threads before asking in the club-specific threads.

At the end of the season the bottom-three teams (after Opening and Closing stage results are added together) are relegated to the Segunda División.

I've been playing in Uruguay for almost 9 seasons now and I'm still a bit confused, but this part in the Wiki is not correct. In addition to the Opening, Closing and Total table, there's also a Accumulative Points table, which takes the Total points of the last two seasons combined. This is the table that decide who's relegated. Teams that are in their first season in the First Division have their points doubled to compensate.

I personally got relegated in my first season in this division even though we finished 4th last in the Total table. Here's an example from one of my seasons (Total (http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv330/TommiHelm/s7table3.jpg) | Accumulative Points (http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv330/TommiHelm/s7table4.jpg)). As you can see Rampla Juniors finished last, but still wasn't relegated cause they had so many points the season before.

I have no idea how to edit wikis so if someone else could.

Should we have the main club guides in the style of Crewe's/Stoke's [as in the table for gk/def/mid/str] or the current for the rest?

Can someone with more knowledge from outside the English game on FM help with the game HoF points page please?

Wow this thread really has died a slow death hasn't it? :(

Seems as if jammy leaving and Alan not having as much time to dedicate to it as he used to was the start of a massive decline. :(

I'm still here but have less time due to having to do a course plus additional work but try to keep the site moving. Could be fun in the summer - hopefully the fans of clubs will help me keep (semi) up-to-date with squads. This thread isn't that active - remember we are less than half way through this page and it was started in January.

Tom - No worries, i'll keep the thread going even if i'm on my own in doing it :p

Update:
* All of the club guides we have permission for are on the site
* A number of PMs have been sent out to authors of the player profiles on GTPG with about half giving permission for using their work. I'm also doing profiles for some players that i've used since the 10.3.0 patch has been released.
* The Hall of Fame points page is coming together. Again PMs have been sent to those who are completing challenges in CSE and/or posting in the career updates forum.
* Some more PMs will be sent out soon for club guides.
* I've tried to keep up to date with players who will be released by their clubs this summer. I've also done some of the transfers that have already taken place.

ssestig
23-05-2010, 22:14
Another update:
* All player profiles that I were kept in wikipedia c&p jobs have been deleted as I cba writing FM profiles on them.
* Transfers are as close to up-to-date as I can make them
* All players whose contracts expire in the summer have been released from their clubs.
* PMs have been recieved by about 15-20 people to do with player profile & club threads from GTPG. Hopefully the rest will be available after permissions gained soon - may have to be via PM again. Have included a link to the wiki in PMs and have recieved compliments from some people so good work team.
* I'll start sorting out screenshots for players that are currently on site over the next few weeks.
* Over 850,000 page views on the wiki

Hi everyone.

Just to let everyone know we now have 60 team guides from GTPG and around 300 player profiles on the site. We are looking for more members to be involved so if there is anything you can help with we will appreciate it.

Thanks in advance

Will do Nep. Anything for the site would be good Nep - I don't want to come across as refusing any help but there's nothing in particular that needs to be done. If people could help with their favourite players or teams that aren't already on the site then that would be great.

I can do a few profiles for the Cardiff city team just PM me what style you want it and it's done.

PS might want to take Joe Ledley from Cardiff as he has joined Celtic

ssestig

JJay - I did say if necessary i'd keep it going by myself and I have.

PyramidHead - I would have thought that too but i'm not sure how it has been advertised in the different forums here. Any help is highly appreciated.

typenamehere - If you want an account on the wiki to make changes quicker that might be the better option. If you just look at the other profiles on the site for roughly what we want. I'll sort out Ledley to Cardiff now.
