Could team GB lead to League GB ?????

Recommended Posts

We have all heard about how the pre- posed Atlantic lg setup , and how it would be opposed bitterly by Fifa and so on,,,, so I was thinking ,,,should the Old firm fans get behind the idea of a team GB ?? I know that the English FA are keen on it for the next Olympics ( and they havent wanted old firm in EPL ) ,,,but the the other HOME nations are afraid that any move to a TEAM GB could spell an end in there being any SCOT / WELSH / IRISH ,, home nations ?? But if that indeed did happen then surely the next thing to happen would ineviatively be a GB League ??. Could the FA be shooting themselves in the foot here ???????

I have mixed feelings on that,, however it may be the only way for the old firm to eventually find themselves playing week after week against superior opposition in England ,,,, and gaining an equal share in the MASSIVE TV Income that all the English and European clubs get year in,,year out,,, from SKY and so on...

So What do other Old Firm Fans think ,,?? ,would you sacrafice the national side for the benefit of our RANGERS OR CELTIC sides playing the likes of Man U,, Liverpool , Chelsea etc ,,and so, and competing on a more even playing field ,,against the best of Europe ??? and Could the lure of cash and big glamour ties eventually lead to the end of the Home nations being seperate ???

Or will the Atlantic League eventually happen ????

All in all ,, what would it be like eventually to have a British or Atlantic League to manage in ???

It would be very bad for world football tbh, because say they all merged into one set of leagues it would give scottish, welsh and irish clubs an impossible task of getting into europe, also the extra places it will create in the top league would mean that up to about 8th place would get a champions league qualifiying spot at least, and teams in wales and ireland are league one standard at best. Further more Rangers and Celtic are two teams which play in a very poor standard of league, no offence, if they were to be in the premiership they would certaintly be bottom half mid table teams. This is a horrible idea as it would mess so much up and give so many divisions. Things are best left how they are. Even if we were made to combine countries the leagues are left to the countries independant bodies within reason anyway so any league joining would be up to our respective FA's.

I wasnt saying either that we where top 4 EPL,,,but not just the old firm,, clubs like PSV, AJAX ,BENFICA, PORTO find themselves in a similar position,,ie too big for their own lg and in a non attractive lg for TV investment.

But to say the old firm would only be champ class is just ridiculous,, they both have massive stadiums and World wide support,, that is only equal in the UK to Man U and Liverpool. even chelsea and Arsenal dont have the same world wide fan base as the Old firm.

Should never happen. The whole basis of the football league pyramid is the promotion/relegation format. To parachute two teams into the upper echelons of the English Football League Pyramid would be a disservice to the hundred or so clubs who have been battling their way to the summit for the last hundred and twenty years.

If the Old Firm wanted to play in the English League pyramid they should have to apply and start at the relevant tier, as any other club wishing to reach the Premiership would have to.

92 teams in the football league, but i agree, although teams such as Celitc or Rangers if they did (which they won't) enter the nglish leagues they would not start at the relevant tierm they would start in the prem, anyway, the next step is not the 39th but the european league regardless of the disolution of the G whatever,

YES Agreed ,, however if you wnt to dissolve the national teams and have ONE team GB,,, then FIFA may well be right in saying there should only be a League GB also. I could see all the other members in UEFA going along with that too,,, its been Known in the past that they havent enjoyed seperate teams from the UK taking up qualification slots that they could otherwise devide up among the other euro nations

And UEFA like the four FAs- it gives them three extra votes. Those votes could swing a poll in UEFA's favour.

Actually UEFA Dont favour the 4 FA'S ,,as in the past the 4 home nations tend to stick together when it comes to the voting system. That was exactly the point I was making
