Tutoring problem - no linked players

I'd like to tutor some of my youngsters, especially one who is feeling the pressure. However, when I go to the Player Interaction screen, none of my squad have any "Linked Players" who I can use - I have the heading "Linked Players", and it says "Player" underneath but there is no drop down menu or anything else.

Is this a bug, am I doing something wrong, is this something my assistant manager isn't good enough at doing, do I need to do something else to link them to begin with? Any ideas?

Are you going to the players you want to tutor? There must be players at the club capable of tutoring the selected player.

Literally no-one in my club has any linked players available on their Player Interaction screen...

Have the youth players got a contract, is their squad status back-up or lower, are they in reserves or youth team, is there someone aged 23 or over in the first team who has the same natural position as them that currently aren't tutoring anyone else?

Aah, the kid I want tutored is 18 but he's part of the first team squad with a status of "squad rotation". There is a grizzly old-timer who I'd have liked him to learn from, but does the fact he's already "made it" at my club mean he's not available for tutoring?

yeah, unless you drop him for a few weeks and lower his squad status - which is a risky move as he'll tend to get a bit narked.
